Lead Information System Security Officer

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen AND an active Top Secret or DOE "Q" clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret or DOE "Q" clearance to be considered.

We are seeking a Lead Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to support a government customer based in Las Vegas, NV. The Lead ISSO will manage A&A activities, ensuring projects meet schedule and compliance requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing deliverables, coordinating with teams, balancing workloads, and integrating cybersecurity processes. You will assist with audits, risk management (NIST/CNSSI), continuous monitoring, and ensure alignment with federal security policies. Additionally, you'll support business continuity planning, incident response, and corrective actions.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Lead Information System Security Officer: $120,000 to $150,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Lead Information System Security Officer Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee the Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) process, ensuring compliance with federal security standards and successful system certifications.
  • Work with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure cybersecurity policies, procedures, and deliverables are integrated into system development and operations.
  • Ensure systems and operations comply with security requirements, applying risk management frameworks such as NIST and CNSSI, and managing security risks to the environment.
  • Design, implement, and maintain security policies, standards, and guidelines in alignment with federal regulations (e.g., DOE, NNSA).
  • Assist with audit preparation and participate in security assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support incident response and recovery efforts, ensuring systems are prepared for cybersecurity threats.
  • Oversee continuous monitoring activities, ensuring cybersecurity risks are detected, reported, and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provide security awareness training for personnel and contribute to the development of educational activities related to information security.
  • Support contingency planning and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity during security incidents.
  • Lead and manage security teams, balancing workloads, ensuring team success, and providing guidance and mentorship to junior ISSOs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Lead Information System Security Officer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or 4 years of equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of relevant information security experience
  • Experience in coordinating team activities and managing projects
  • Ability to acquire CISSP certification within 1 year
  • Hands-on experience with data loss prevention, incident response, network security, and vulnerability scanning
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle after-hours/weekend work if needed
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and planning skills
  • Additional certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNA, PMP)
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
