Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist. The
UCS reports directly to the Associate Director of Technical Support for Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick.
This position is responsible for the following and not limited to:
- Provide the daily support of desktop operating systems and software;
- Perform analytical, technical and administrative work to plan, design, and install networked and stand-alone computer systems for public use rooms, computer classrooms, offices, and conference rooms;
- Analyze user needs and evaluates new products;
- Install and troubleshoot software and hardware, and provide telephone and on-site support;
- Provide technical support, assistance, and consultation to faculty, staff, and students and/or lower-level consultants;
- Collaborate with other units to improve access to and maximize use of computing resources;
- Conduct hands-on training sessions and instructional classes in hardware and software applications for students, faculty, and staff;
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of software and documentation libraries;
- Maintain currency in new developments and technologies, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires working knowledge of desktop software and operating systems currently in use with a combination of two years education/experience;

Certifications/Licenses |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Requires good communication skills, basic consultative, and organizational skills and computer literacy;
- Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent education and or experience;
- Three years experience in instructional technology systems with emphasis on customer service and problem resolution.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of modern computing, networking and communications systems;
- Working knowledge of office practices and methods;
- Ability to operate or learn to operate office machines required to perform the assigned work;
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and/or verify information accurately;
- Ability to coordinate work with other employees, providing direct instruction or supervision as assigned;
- Ability to use a personal computer keyboard and read a personal computer screen;
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing;
- Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public;
- Previous Help Desk, classroom technology, field support, or telephone support experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must be able to lift 50lbs;
- Will require occasional travel between campuses, and the RBS Jersey City satellite locations.
