Job Description Summary: The Engineer (SMTS) leverages an understanding of hardware, firmware/software, and existing or custom tooling to evaluate systems for vulnerabilities and/or to develop software to exploit and alter the behavior of a system. Security Engineers are responsible for both identifying and defeating modern defensive security techniques in both hardware and software to deliver software that can withstand environmental scrutiny. Works independently, in conjunction with defensive software or hardware cybersecurity professionals for red team efforts, or with other cross-domain professionals for targets that intersect other technical areas.This role is responsible for planning, designing, testing, implementing and maintaining the cyber security solutions for the information systems and networks supporting a critical national defense program at Draper. This role requires a thorough knowledge of the program requirements, mission priorities and goals, as well as in depth understanding of current and emerging technologies in order to provide strategic planning and technical expertise relative to all aspects of the cyber security program. The optimal candidate for this role has the ability and experience required to lead teams in the creation of security solutions through the evaluation of technical requirements, mission priorities and available technologies while weighing potential risks associated with existing and emerging security threats, program needs, cost, and schedule impacts.
