Responsibilities

The Sr Manager of Claims is a collaborative, cross-functional position, and reports directly to the Director of Risk Management. This role is responsible for leading our enterprise-wide claims management efforts and risk mitigation initiatives, providing strategic guidance and leadership to our internal risk management claims team, and actively managing our critical third-party representatives (TPA, broker, legal counsel, etc.). Along with the Director of Risk Management, this position serves as the primary liaison between Risk Management and all enterprise-wide business units and partners.

  • Provide strategic leadership to the claims team to minimize the total cost of risk (TCOR) while maximizing our core objectives.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of all claims to ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained while ensuring the maximum outcome-based metrics are achieved.
  • Establish claims department processes to effectively achieve shared and clearly established objectives; ensure processes minimize inefficiencies in a fast-paced multi-line environment.
  • Provide technical claims expertise and leadership across all lines of commercial insurance and for all business units.
  • Provide oversight for all high-level claims, liaison updates with appropriate internal and external stakeholders, actively forecast exposures, and plan for the best ROI.
  • Inspire innovation within the claims team and maximize technology to accelerate results.
  • Ensure cost containment solutions are identified and deployed. e.g., Return to Work (RTW) program, outcomes-based resolutions, etc. Support solutions with metrics and encourage stakeholder compliance.
  • Conduct and coordinate research and other activities for legal defense matters.
  • Establish key departmental metrics; create KPIs, analyze trends, and generate consistent and actionable management reports.
  • Manage quarterly actuarial analysis process, including data collection, submission, and compliance; liaison with Finance to ensure reserve adequacy.
  • Assist with insurance renewals, including data collection, underwriting meetings, and broker engagement.
  • Assist in audits of outside claims administrators for effectiveness and cost containment.
  • Lead third-party engagements, including TPAs, RMIS, legal counsel, and experts.
  • Coordinate and lead business unit claims reviews.
  • Provide ongoing, initiative-taking risk management support as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, safety, health, or similar fields.
  • 3+ years of risk management or claims management-related work.
  • Strong people skills; must be able to interface with all levels of management.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with RMIS preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, meticulous, and efficient time management skills
  • Must be enthusiastic about career development and have the desire to coach and train others.
  • Valid Driver's License
