Moog is seeking an Electronic Calibration Engineer to be responsible for engineering tasks related to electronic, hydraulic and mechanical calibrations for the site. Reporting to a Quality Manager, you will have a 9/80 work schedule and work onsite daily in Torrance, CA. As a Calibration Engineer, you will:
- Provide support and technical direction to a team of 5 Calibration Technicians
- Assist in providing technical assistance and calibration support up to 9000 pieces of test equipment (commercial and Moog designed) across Moog Aircraft and sub-contracted services.Review and compliance to all customer and regulatory requirements flowed down to Moog by contract. Compliance and maintenance to the applicable AS9100 certification requirements. Gap assessment and compliance to ISO/IEC: 17025 A2LA, ANSI 540 requirements where deemed appropriate. This shall include participation in internal and customer /regulatory audit and response to corrective action responses to any findings.
- Development of calibration test procedures and data sheets to be used on Moog designed and commercial test equipment as well as make recommendations for their revision.
- Review test equipment designs and recommend changes as required to improve calibration, maintenance, and reliability. This shall include incorporation and implementation of state-of-the-art calibration techniques, processes and equipment throughout the facility, including initializing the calibration record keeping activity for new equipment. Responsibilities shall also include input and rationalization for necessary capital expenditures and improvements.
- Initiate the design and documentation of calibration and maintenance aids to facilitate the most efficient performance of tasks to guarantee test equipment integrity and accuracy.
- Perform initial calibration for the first of a family of measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to establish acceptable standards to be followed in subsequent calibrations by calibration technicians.
- Continual review and adjustment of designated calibration cycles of classes of equipment based on reliability and historical performance.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training in calibration and measurement technology and equipment operation to calibration technicians. Training shall also include on-boarding of new Technicians, and to assist in addressing any identified gaps in skill levels within the department.
- Review all calibration data and records for completeness, accuracy, and out of tolerance evaluation. Ensure the maintenance of calibration records to the National Bureau of Standards as well as compliance to applicable Military Standards and Specifications.
- Ensure the maintenance and calibration of laboratory standards and coordinate activities related to contracted calibration services.
- Undertake appropriate training in conjunction with equipment changes and/or improvements in order to stay abreast of the latest technological advances within the electronics field.
To be considered for the role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
- Bachelor's Degree in Physics or Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical is desirable)
- Minimum 4+ years of Calibration / Metrology work experience
- OR High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of Calibration / Metrology experience may substitute as an equivalent combination of education and experience
This position requires access to United States export-controlled information. It'd be great if you also had:
- DoD Security Clearance preferred or the ability to obtain one (requires US citizenship)
- Experience in the Aerospace industry
- Experience in electronic calibration including instrumentation circuitry and test equipment system start-up.
- 5 or more years of calibration/metrology work experience
- Experience and proficiency with technical writing
- Strong communication and organizational skills
