Primary Purpose

SoCalGas is excited to offer hands-on training opportunities through our 12-week summer internship program. This program provides students with the chance to put theory into practice, gaining valuable work experience that is both personally and professionally rewarding. Internship placements are available at various company locations, based on the specific needs of each hiring department.

Role Overview:

As an Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting your department by conducting comprehensive reviews, detailed analyses, and providing well-informed recommendations for engineering requests. Your tasks may include:



  • Research Support: Gathering and synthesizing data from company records stored in both hard copy and digital formats to support various engineering projects.
  • Engineering Analysis: Performing in-depth engineering and cost-benefit analyses for gas processing facility projects, ensuring that all recommendations are grounded in solid data and aligned with company goals.


  • Simulation Software Utilization: Leveraging advanced simulation software to conduct gas processing analyses, providing critical insights that drive project success.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that all engineering solutions are practical, efficient, and innovative.
  • Professional Development: Engaging in continuous learning opportunities and professional development activities to enhance technical skills and industry knowledge.


This internship is designed to offer a robust learning experience, enabling you to develop a strong foundation in engineering principles while contributing meaningfully to SoCalGas's mission of delivering safe, reliable, and affordable energy.

$24.20 - $41.50 / hour

Education



  • Full-time student in a 4-year College or University Engineering program. Required
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student. Required
  • Must have at least one semester or quarter left before graduation. Graduating Fall 2025 or later. Required
  • Chemical and mechanical engineering disciplines. Preferred.
  • A 3.0 Cumulative GPA or above is required and must be maintained throughout the internship. Required


Must be able to commit to one of the following 12-week sessions:



  • May 27, 2025-August 15, 2025
  • June 23, 2025-September 12, 2025


Placement Locations:



  • Downtown Los Angeles
  • Monterey Park
  • Pico Rivera
  • Playa Del Rey
  • Redlands
  • San Dimas


More locations may be added, based on department need.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Solid understanding of fluid flow, thermal dynamics, piping systems and computer applications preferable.
  • Must be able to analyze significant amounts of data and develop multiple options and scenarios in reaching decisions.
  • Must be able to manage and implement multiple projects and to coordinate assigned activities and individual projects.
  • Knowledge of project management software tools, PC operations, spreadsheets, CAD, mainframe, networks, and MS Office preferable.
  • Must clearly and concisely communicate technical information and concepts in formal and informal settings with other departments in the company.
  • Strong communications skills. This position requires constant communication with people of various levels of work experience; must be willing to learn from others, be self-motivated to perform tasks that are simple or complex.


Other Qualifications



  • Must be able to work 30-40 hours per week during the Summer (12 weeks).
  • Must be able to work onsite 3 days a week from primary work location.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation. This position requires travel to various locations as part of the internship experience. This includes site visits, tours, and networking events.

Pay Rates



  • Freshman: $24.20/hr.
  • Sophomore: $26.90/hr.
  • Junior: $29.55/hr.
  • Senior: $31.60/hr.
  • Graduate Student: $37.50/hr.
