GENERAL SUMMARY: Under minimal to no supervision, operates, maintains and ensures the safe and economical operation of all heating and cooling systems, medical gases and vacuum, domestic hot and cold water, cooling towers, converters, pneumatic tube system, boilers, chillers, absorption units, package refrigeration and fire systems. Principal operator of the primary central plant mechanical systems. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma. Four to Five (4-5) years of experience operating a large complex central facility plant with special emphasis in operating under constantly changing loads. Must have a working knowledge of advanced HVAC technologies and be able to use a computerized building automation system operator workstation. Must be able to efficiently operate a wide range of mechanical systems, perform chemical tests on cooling towers and heating and cooling loops. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Requires a First Class Refrigeration Operator License, a Third Class Stationary Engineers license and State of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources 5B Microbial Pest Mgt Certification.
