General Summary: The Antibiotic Stewardship Pharmacist (ASP) will promote appropriate antibiotic use throughout the Hospital and provide individualized antimicrobial treatment recommendations for all patient populations in accordance with national practice guidelines and the requirements established by CMS and The Joint Commission. The ASP will design and implement clinical initiatives and plan strategies for optimal stewardship under the guidance of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. The ASP will also identify opportunities to enhance patient care while monitoring the use of antimicrobials to assure appropriate and cost effective use. The ASP will work collaboratively with the Infection Disease Physician, The Infection Prevention Nurse and the Pharmacy Leadership Team to provide services within the scope of Antimicrobial Stewardship.

Minimum Job Requirements: Minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and licensure as a Registered Pharmacist by passing the examination of the Commonwealth of Mass. Board of Pharmacy or by the reciprocal licensure. At least 5 years work experience or residency training preferred.

Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Knowledge of Pharmacy management principles and procedures.

Records maintenance skills.

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Word processing and/or data entry skills. Knowledge of relevant legal and governmental processes, procedures, protocols, and conventions.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.

Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills. Knowledge of Emerson Hospital administrative policies and procedures, etc.

Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.

Ability to analyze and solve problems. Employee development and performance management skills.
