Job Summary

The Senior Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration reports to the Dean and is a confidential management position responsible for providing broad leadership and management of financial planning and administrative services for the School. As a key advisor to the Dean, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and the Associate Dean for Instruction, the Assistant Dean serves as a leader in financial planning, financial reporting, analyses for program development, forecasting, policy setting on administrative matters, organizational development, risk management, and operations, including human resource management, project and instructional support, facilities, information technology and business office functions. Significant duties include serving as a leader of analyses and implementation of new programmatic opportunities in support of the School's mission. Responsible for financial planning of entrepreneurial, revenue-generating activities through the full-time MBA program, the four part-time MBA programs, the Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Science in Business Analytics, Master of Management, Undergraduate and non-degree and other programs and initiatives. Work collaboratively as member of the Senior Staff Team and with faculty as appropriate. Serve as the School's primary campus liaison with the UC Davis central administration (e.g., Budget and Institutional Analysis, Human Resources, General Counsel) on all administrative, financial, and human resource issues. This position is one of five senior staff administrators in the School.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Graduate School of Management is consistently ranked among the premier business schools in the United States and internationally. The principal goal of the School's programs is to produce graduates who have the ability, knowledge and motivation to perform effectively as leaders in business. The school has approximately 600 MBA students enrolled in the Full Time MBA and Working Professional MBA programs on the UC Davis campus, in Sacramento, in the San Francisco Bay Area and online, 80 students in the Master of Management program, 60 students in the MPAc and 100 students in the MSBA programs, as well as undergraduate students in the Technology Management and Accounting Minors. U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked UC Davis among the top 10 percent of MBA programs in the nation. The school is largely self- funded and relies on student fees from self-supporting programs and professional degree fees for 80 percent of its revenue. Student enrollments are fundamental to the School's financial success and reputation. This position is one of five senior staff administrators in the School.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • A minimum of ten years of high-level finance and administrative experience within a large, complex environment, including experience in financial planning and analysis in a fund-based budget environment.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in financial forecasting and reporting and in the development and use of sophisticated tools and financial models to monitor funds, make projections, and design management reports.
  • A minimum of five years of personnel management and supervision exercising team building skills to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, resolve problems/conflicts, conduct performance management and build an effective service-oriented, team environment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in the areas of procurement, financial planning/budgeting, contracting, human resources administration, Information and Communications Technology, and operations management.
  • Proven skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with financial and human resource constraints in a collaborative matrix organization.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to effectively provide sound recommendations and continually examine systems and develop or revise for continuous improvement and to accommodate change requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in finance or related area.
  • Experience in developing and managing programs and resources in a self-supporting environment.
  • Experience at an institution of higher education, UC experience and/or Business School experience desirable.
  • The proven ability to apply the minimum KSA in a Business school environment and/or at UC Davis.
  • Proven abilities in interpersonal and public communication skills to effectively interact with diverse groups and individuals at all levels of the University and the School, establish formal and informal relationships with others to provide feedback, information, and support, secure and/or provide information to clarify situations and decisions, resolve problems in a collaborative manner and communicate the School's administrative decisions to stakeholders and constituencies.
