Job Summary:

Wisconsin Public Radio's (WPR) Music Producer will work in close collaboration with WPR's music staff and staff from other content departments. They will help plan, organize and produce broadcast and digital content for the statewide WPR Music network, including interviews, on-air promotions, and digital articles. The Music Producer will also serve as the primary music content liaison with WPR's regional bureaus and statewide music and arts performance groups. This position may occasionally serve as a fill-in classical music host.

WPR's music network launched in May of 2024, and brings locally-hosted classical, folk and world music to listeners across Wisconsin. It forms an important part of WPR's service which also includes the WPR News network and the new WPR website.

This position is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, and reports to the WPR Music Program Director.


Responsibilities:
Develops and produces content and production materials in one or more areas for programming. Assists in developing, coordinating, and directing the production strategy and process.

  • 30% Researches and develops production strategy for one or more programs across broadcast and digital platforms
  • 30% Produces, develops, and edits content that may include identifying topics, themes, guests, conducting pre-interviews and/or interviews, writing, and/or integrating content for multimedia platforms
  • 20% Performs daily operational activities for live and pre-recorded content, and may direct the editorial and creative process of production activities
  • 10% Collaborates with other content creators in pre- to post-production processes, prepares materials, and handles logistics for broadcast and/or digital publications
  • 5% Maintains familiarity with studio equipment and/or applicable technology for production
  • 5% May schedule and direct operational activities for content production, including live/recorded studio or field productions

- Exceptional organizational skills, ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple communication streams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting and with input from multiple stakeholders.
- Experience consistently meeting deadlines for projects and/or tasks with tight timelines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a collaborative broadcast and/or digital production environment.
- Broad interest in music and performers.
- Experience with audio production and hosting.
- Eager to learn and develop and is capable of taking a proactive and creative approach to projects.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This is a hybrid position that is headquartered in Madison, WI. Some work will be required to be performed in-person, onsite, at the designated headquartered campus work location. Some duties, like attending special events, will be performed both on-site in the headquartered campus work office, and occasionally in the other regional office locations. Final schedule can be discussed in the offer stage, but fully remote candidates will not be accepted.

Expected salary for this position is $60,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.


Additional Information:

This position will occasionally require travel to other regional office locations in Wisconsin for occasional work assignments. The person in this role must have the ability to independently travel to all required locations at agreed upon times. Travel expenses will be reimbursed as appropriate within UW policies. Please note, any driver must be able to be approved as a UW Authorized Driver to receive mileage reimbursement.
