Position title: Visiting Assistant Professor in Mathematics Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A reasonable estimate for this position is $68,500 - $90,100 per academic year (nine-month basis). Percent time:
Full-time (100%) Anticipated start:
July 1, 2025, with academic year beginning September 2025. Degree requirements must be completed by August 31, 2025. Position duration:
Initial appointment will be for two years. Reappointment for a third year is expected, but contingent upon availability of funding and an assessment of performance after the second year. Application Window Open date: December 4, 2024 Next review date: Friday, Feb 14, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Sep 1, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Mathematics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for one or more visiting assistant professors in all areas of mathematics, including algebra, number theory, topology, analysis, and geometry and dynamics. Under the direction of the Mathematics Department Chair, the visiting assistant professor(s) will contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction and the research activity of the department. Research, teaching, and service expectations are typical for early-career faculty at a research university. Furthermore, the selected candidate(s)will be expected to participate in department seminars. Preference will be given to candidates whose field of research complements the department's existing research activities. Visiting assistant professors will be matched with a mentor from our permanent faculty for career and research guidance. Experience teaching mathematics at the college or university level as the instructor of record will be highly valued. Applicants with expertise in the broad area of geometry/topology are strongly encouraged to apply.
