Mechanical Engineer BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team, supporting the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) onsite at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Honolulu, HI. The position involves working on both classified and unclassified networks for the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense (DoD).
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Support reviews, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and plumbing systems for new construction and renovation projects; tasks encompass a wide variety of HVAC systems and/or equipment, including but not limited to variable primary chilled water systems, air cooled chillers and water cooled chillers
- Coordinates with team members to execute project scope, schedules, and budgets in conformance with the project and customer requirements
- Facilitates the minimization of project delays by providing technical reviews and recommendations when requested within predetermined timeframes
- Researches codes, guidance, policies, procedures, processes, criteria and Federal laws and regulations and provides sound technical recommendations both verbally and in writing
- Applies innovative technical principles, practices and theories to the resolution of technical issues
- Coordinates with the Government client, PACAF team members, leadership, project stakeholders, and various regulatory agencies
- Reviews technical reports, RFIs, designs, design changes for both design-build and design bid build projects, project deliverables, submittals, cost proposals from contractors, etc. to ensure compliance with customer and RFP requirements
- Provides technical support for the review of the commissioning plan, design and construction submittals, and field inspections
- Provides technical support for the construction field activities
- Provides summary of accomplishments during weekly meetings and in a prepared monthly status report
Key Qualifications
- US Citizen
- Security Clearance: Secret (Tier 3 preferred) or ability to obtain
- Demonstrated experience with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and plumbing systems for new construction and renovation projects. Experience should encompass a wide variety of HVAC systems and/or equipment, including but not limited to variable primary chilled water systems, air cooled chillers and water cooled chillers
- Demonstrated knowledge of broad-based Engineering principles and versed in the discipline being hired
- Sound understanding of technical concepts, principles and practices applicable to multi-disciplined engineering project design
- Demonstrated experience in preparing correspondence, written reports, and in briefing management personnel
- Demonstrated experience in the use and application of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), AutoCAD and/or Revit, etc.
- The ability to adapt to new software such as eCMS, MS Teams and Zoom may also be necessary
Experience & Education
- Minimum of 2- 4 years experience with HVAC
- Graduate of an accredited Engineering college curriculum (4-year degree)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time
- Able to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
- Capable of light lifting, under 10 lbs.
