Position Overview The Embedded Clinician position is a new and exciting opportunity in the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) department at the University of Kansas. Working closely with the CAPS clinical team, they will play a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of students by providing counseling services, supervision and development of outreach and well-being programming. Embedded Clinicians spend their time within an identified college or department providing clinical, outreach, programming and consultation services. Any remaining time is spent within the central CAPS location. Embedded Clinician staff have a unique opportunity to develop ongoing collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff and develop an expertise within their embedded area. With an office in close proximity to the department it supports, these positions will also contribute to CAPS functional areas, including: Individual and group counseling; psychological assessment; developmental and crisis counseling; case management Development of and participation in outreach programming Consultation with faculty staff, parents, and others General administrative responsibilities Training and supervision of CAPS clinical trainees Other duties as assigned CAPS is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, where "We make learning possible." Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is comprised of the Clinical Service and Campus Assistance, Resource, and Education (CARE) teams. We are an interdisciplinary team of professionals that work collaboratively to meet the wide range of mental health needs of a global student community. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with clinical, educational and outreach-based services that benefit the mental health and well-being of all Jayhawks. Services are primarily short-term in nature, and referrals are made to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. Job Description 60% Student/Client Direct Services: Provision of primary, secondary, and tertiary counseling services to eligible members of the KU community within the CAPS scope of service. Performs initial consultation evaluations (routine, urgent, and crisis) based on the referring problem. Evaluations focus on arriving at a preliminary diagnosis, an integrated treatment plan, or appropriate referral. Provide consultation within the legal boundaries of release-of-information. Consistent with CAPS Policy & Procedure manuals, develop individualized treatment plan based on an investigation of empirically supported treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and accurately document treatment provided. 10% Training: Active involvement in all training programs including supervision of trainees, and educational activities. 10% Outreach and Community Engagement: Provide clinical workshops and liaison services. 10% Administrative Tasks and Meetings: Be an active, respectful, and engaged member of CAPS and its work groups. Attend staff and other assigned meetings/committees. 10% Professional Development & Peer Consultation: Attend staff and other assigned clinical meetings/committees. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master's degree in social work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling, or closely related field and one year of related professional work experience. License eligible within Kansas or another state. Must obtain full licensure as a mental health provider in the State of Kansas within 3 years of date of employment. Strong interpersonal skills as evidenced in application materials. Passion and commitment to working with and contributing to a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary, and multi-theoretical team providing culturally attuned services and training, as evidenced in application materials. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related field. 3+ years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are similar to traditional and non-traditional college students. Current independent licensure in mental health care. Experience in a university counseling center or university environment, as evidenced in application materials. Experience working within brief models of care, as evidenced in application materials. Experience and interest in providing outreach presentations and group work, as evidenced in application materials. 2 years' Experience with clinical training and supervision. Experience in crisis situations, as evidenced in application materials. Experience working with a broad range of backgrounds and clinical needs, as evidenced in application materials.
