Summer Internship 2025 - Thermal Management Engineer Intern

Requisition Summary

The primary focus of this position will be to support Summer Test trip activities within the Thermal Management Group. The summer intern will work closely with and under the mentorship of experienced engineering and technical staff while assisting with the offsite test planning and preparing test vehicles with the appropriate instrumentation and data acquisition equipment. The intern may participate in the Summer Test(s) by assisting with the test execution, data collection, and analysis of the "real-world" truck operation. This position will also collaborate with engineering and technical staff outside the department, offering a broader exposure to the work performed at the Technical Center and PACCAR's North American engineering organizations.

The Summer Internship Program provides the opportunity to contribute to PACCAR's truck and technology development efforts while gaining valuable engineering skills and experience. The Program also organizes professional, social events with interns working in various groups at the Technical Center and other regional PACCAR engineering facilities.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle-level thermal management testing and data analysis, including environmental chambers and on-road evaluations.
  • Hands-on instrumentation and data acquisition system setup and operation.
  • Continual improvement of processes and/or products.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least a Junior (3rd-year) standing working toward a BSME or equivalent degree in a related major. Heat transfer, thermodynamics, and/or fluid mechanics coursework completion preferred.
  • Team skills - this position will coordinate with engineering and technical support staff to prepare and instrument trucks and conduct testing under the supervision of experienced members of the team.
  • Excellent technical communication.
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility, and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools is desired (such as MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Fundamental knowledge of automotive vehicle systems preferred.
  • Moderate domestic travel may be required of this position.
