Role Summary: The Software Systems Engineer - EV Charging will be a key driver of innovation at Electrify America. In this role you will be responsible for defining and developing technical solutions to improve performance and reliability of Electrify America's current and next-generation DC Fast Chargers (DCFC). You will work closely with Strategy, Product, IoT, and Charging Technology teams to expand Electrify America's technology portfolio, define new products, and oversee their implementation from ideations to market introduction.

In this role, you will drive the creation of technical system and sub-system level requirements from product and feature requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring alignment between various internal stakeholders and external development partners. A strong understanding of embedded firmware/software, power electronics, controls, and IoT devices is critical, along with experience in specifying software/firmware functionalities, interfaces, and architectures. Additionally, you will support root cause analysis efforts to continuously improve our charging products while also conducting market analysis and benchmarking to guide future product development.

Role Responsibilities:

Main responsibility - Systems Engineering (70%)



  • Distill high-level product requirements and feature requests into detailed system requirements and technical specifications for current gen DCFC software and systems.
  • Maintain technical documentation for DCFC and interfaces, including user manuals, API documentation, sequence diagrams, etc.
  • Support development and documentation of requirements, sub-system designs, and architecture for next generation DCFC.


Additional responsibilities - Alignment with Product and Strategy (10%)



  • Coordinate with Product Team to capture requirements at a product or feature level.
  • Support technical roadmap and feature planning for DCFC and related interfaces/peripherals.


Additional responsibilities - Quality and Validation Support (10%)



  • Support cross functional team to identify key issues through data analysis, and hands on testing.
  • Support Quality and Network Operations in root cause analyses of critical field issues; including recommendations for SW or HW design changes or service campaigns.


Additional responsibilities - Competitor and Market Analysis (10%)



  • Identify and benchmark new products and technologies.
  • Develop comprehensive technical knowledge of competitor product offerings to inform strategic decisions and future product development.

Qualifications

Years of Relevant Experience:



  • 5 or more years if systems engineering or related experience


Education (Required):



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent


Skills:



  • Specification and requirements development experience
  • Product and feature development experience
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking - using logic and reason, creative and strategic
  • Communication skills - interpersonal, presentation and written
  • Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software for analysis and development

Specialized Skills (Required):



  • Experience in Systems Engineering, preferably in automotive, charging, or related industries.
  • Requirement and feature development experience.
  • Familiarity with communication and networking protocols including CAN, TCP/IP, PLC, etc.
  • Strong knowledge, insight and understanding of trends within the EV and charging industries.
  • Experience delivering software using Agile processes and tools. Atlassian tools preferred.


Specialized Skills (Desired):



  • Experience with scripting tools; Python, etc.
  • Experience with analytical and database tools such as Elastic Search, Grafana, Snowflake, etc.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, SAE, UL, NIST standards
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle charging standards such as SAE J1772/J3400, IEC 61851, ISO 15118, OCPP, and related.
  • Familiarity with embedded software development and energy management systems


Work Flexibility:



  • Remote Position - Some travel to Northern Virginia (Reston HQ and Ashburn Test Lab), development partners, and charging sites may be required (<20%)

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications.


In the state of California, the salary range is $101,200 - $131,700.


In the state of Colorado, the salary range is $101,200 - $131,700.


In the state of Washington, the salary range is $101,200 - $131,700.


In New York City, the salary range is $121,400 - $158,000.


In Westchester County, the salary range is $121,400 - $158,000.


In the state of Rhode Island, the salary range is $101,200 - $131,700.
