Summary Responsible for leading and performing the installing and maintenance of highly skilled work involving traffic control signs and specialized and complex pavement markings and equipment.Also, responsible for assisting the Signs and Markings supervisor and Traffic Control Coordinator in the distribution of daily assignments, training employees, and enforcing department rules. Responsible for Overseeing markings contractors and their quality and production of work. Responsible for physically assisting the Police and Park Department's in traffic control and layout of various special events such as parades, festivals and 5K runs. Salary $17.03 - 21.80 (depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform & lead a daily variety of physical labor work involving sign installation, removal, repair, and maintenance of all traffic control signs including overhead mounted traffic control signs and specialized Wayfinding Signs. Act as supervisor in the event of the signs and markings supervisor or Signs & Markings Coordinator s' absence Responsible for purchasing materials/equipment as needed with a city issued purchasing visa card Be one of the leads in the Training of new Employees on all aspects of the job and rules. Lead in Performing preliminary and final layout work for marking activities Oversee markings contractors and their quality and production of work Distribute daily assignments to Signs & Markings Technicians Act as a leader for secondary employees by overseeing job performance, jobsite observation and inspections Maintain inventories of sign and markings activities for monthly and yearly reports. Assist sign fabricator to make in-house specialized traffic signs as needed Investigate citizens' complaints and trouble calls, distribute to other employees, or fix as needed Lead, Operate, maintain, and repair various specialized and complex street marking equipment. Using a laptop computer, Desktop Computer or IPAD, enter records and place them on a map of installed signs and markings in a specialized asset management program Trim trees or shrubbery causing visibility obstructions of traffic control signs by using chain saws, cutters, and other various equipment. Install and maintain pavement markings on streets; including centerlines, lane lines, crosswalks, stop bars and many various other kinds of pavement markings Setup barricades, cones and signing in a safe manner to control traffic for lane closures and various special events. Monitoring daily supplies and equipment to perform traffic sign and marking installation & maintenance Help assist the signal division when needed Responsible to follow all city guidelines for having a city issued purchasing card
Minimum Qualifications
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience: 4 - 5 years' experience in Transportation Signs & Markings operations field work IMSA work zone certification IMSA Level I or II Signs and Markings certification Attendance of ATTSA or TEEX work zone classes Mechanical skills Excellent Knowledge of proper street marking layout placement Existing experience of proper traffic control sign placement Existing experience of proper maintenance of traffic control signage
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Skill involving a wide variety of electronic and power hand tools Skill in the use of various type of electronics such as computers, laptops, or iPads Skills in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Outlook, and Word Skills in mathematics and computation Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in the English language Skills or ability to operate various specialized vehicles and equipment used for signage placement and street markings including bucket trucks Ability to work in extreme heat and various other weather conditions. Ability to work working after hours, holidays or weekends for special events
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license IMSA Work Zone certification or an attendance of an ATSSA or TEEX certification course Preferred IMSA Level I or II Signs and Markings certification Preferred
Physical Requirements / Work Environment The incumbent works outdoors in high traffic areas with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards including extreme heat and various other weather. Works with various tools at heights up to 30 feet.
