Position Announcement

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Football will work collaboratively with the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Head Football Coach, Athletic Training Staff, and Dietitian to develop and implement comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of the football student-athletes. This position requires a proactive, positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and a passion for motivating student-athletes to achieve their peak performance both on and off the field. Responsibilities

  • Design and execute sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for the football team, in alignment with the overall goals of the football program.
  • Conduct individual and group strength training sessions, conditioning drills, and mobility/stretching routines.
  • Continuously monitor and adjust training regimens to optimize athletic performance, prevent injuries, and address individual needs.
  • Work closely with the Head Football Coach and position coaches to ensure strength and conditioning programs align with football-specific needs and seasonal goals.
  • Attend football practices, team meetings, and events to stay informed about team progress and to provide expert input into player development.
  • Partner with athletic trainers to monitor and assess the physical readiness of student-athletes, ensuring that training loads are adjusted based on recovery needs and injury prevention.
  • Assist in the rehabilitation process of injured players by adapting strength programs to support recovery and safe return-to-play protocols.
  • Work alongside the team dietitian to promote optimal nutrition strategies that support performance, recovery, and overall health for football student-athletes.
  • Educate student-athletes on proper fueling strategies, hydration, and recovery methods, and implement these strategies within strength and conditioning programming.
  • Utilize data and performance analytics to track athlete progress, identify trends, and adjust programs accordingly.
  • Monitor workload, recovery, and other key performance indicators to ensure athletes are progressing safely and efficiently.
  • Foster a positive, motivating, and inclusive environment that encourages the growth of student-athletes both physically and mentally.
  • Inspire athletes to push their limits, maintain discipline, and uphold a strong work ethic in all training environments.
  • Maintain accurate records of athlete progress, training sessions, and injury reports.
  • Assist with the coordination and scheduling of weight room activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Participate in educational workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities to stay current with the latest strength and conditioning techniques.
  • Assist with other teams as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach or athletic department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC) required.
  • CPR/AED certification required (must be current).
  • Previous experience (1-3 years) in strength and conditioning, preferably at the collegiate or professional level, with a focus on football.
  • Experience working with student-athletes in a team environment and collaborating across multiple departments (coaching, athletic training, nutrition).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Positive attitude, high energy, and ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their best.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, injury prevention, and recovery protocols.
  • Commitment to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper lifting techniques and assist athletes in exercises as needed.
  • Must be able to work in an active and sometimes physically demanding environment, including long hours and weekends during the competitive season.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time "at will" athletic coach position, as defined by University Policy 328. Annual salary of $40,000-42,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of February/March 2025.
