Responsibilities

We seek a motivated engineering co-op with a chosen degree in either aerospace or electrical engineering to eventually support contract work. Also, some areas of contract work under our Dayton team include modeling and simulation for aerospace vehicles and flight test data analyses of launch vehicles. As well, the position entails introductory training under the topics of guidance navigation and control (GNC) in preparation for contract work. Such topics include:

  • Optimal control for launch vehicles.
  • State estimation via Kalman filtering.
  • System identification for control systems.
  • Classical mechanics and numerical analysis for aerospace vehicle modeling.
  • Basic software development.

Furthermore, the position involves an assigned research project within the scope of GNC; lastly, we expect the student to present and to author a report on the results of their project at the conclusion of the semester.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering student with a focus either electrical or aerospace engineering.
  • GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with a general-purpose programming language such as Python, Matlab or C++.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • General interests under the areas of GNC.
  • Familiarity with version control for software de
  • Experience with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers, inertial instrumentation, or embedded systems for applications to process control or navigation.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
  • Please Note: U.S. Citizenship is required for most MTSI positions.
