Under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, the
HVAC Technician is responsible for the performance and maintenance of the University's heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning units insuring their overall safety and usability at all times.

Responsibilities |
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education. -Repair and maintain a variety of heating and air-conditioning systems including, but not limited to absorption and reciprocating units, chilled water loops, air-compressors, pumps, motor control circuits, electric motors, thermostats, heat exchangers, air-handlers, hot-water heaters, boilers, hot water radiator lines, and other associated utilities. -Assist in the selection of all necessary
HVAC maintenance materials. -Assist in the cost and work order completion estimates for
HVAC maintenance and repair items. -Assist in the wording and preparation of work orders, requiring the knowledge and expertise of a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning technician. -Functional support in the development of a preventative and corrective maintenance program for the University's
HVAC systems. -Reasonable fabrication of tools and/or parts when required items cannot be located and/or otherwise purchased. -General repair and operational care of tools and equipment which may exceed the preventative maintenance schedule. -Reassignment to other areas of Facilities in accordance with departmental needs, as determined by the Director of Facilities. |
Minimum Qualifications |
A high school diploma or equivalent with at least three years experience in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment. Possession of a valid Illinois D class drivers' license. Possession of a Universal
EPA Refrigeration Certificate. Possession of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform the maintenance work assigned. The ability to work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions. The ability to lift heavy objects and climb ladders on a routine basis. The ability to work on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week call system. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Working knowledge with the occupational hazards, safe practices, methods, codes, tools, equipment and materials used in the repair of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment. The ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics. The ability to work independently without direct supervision. |

Work hours |
Full time, typically 7:00 am until 3:30 pm or 8:00 am until 4:30 pm with the possibility of working the second shift if deemed necessary (3:00 pm until 11:00 pm). |
