CGD Project Scientist I

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)
life insurance, parental leave, paid holidays, sick time, tuition assistance, relocation assistance
United States, Colorado, Boulder
Dec 06, 2024
Job Description Summary:NSF NCAR's Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) Laboratory is excited to announce the job opening for a Project Scientist I with their Atmospheric Modeling and Prediction Section. This position will focus on improving model representation of aerosol-cloud interactions and cloud processes in the Community Earth System Model (CESM). The project will aim at reducing warm, mixed-phase, and ice cloud biases in CESM by updating current model physics and implementing new parameterizations representing physical processes which are currently missing in CESM.

The Project Scientist I will update model physics (e.g. with improved aerosol activation and representation of secondary ice production, and assess cloud biases by comparing model simulations against various observational datasets). This position will work with the PI and project participants from the Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) division and the Atmospheric Chemistry Observation and Modeling (ACOM) division to assess key simulated processes of aerosol-cloud interactions and cloud processes.

This will be a highly collaborative project between the incumbent and the scientists in CGD and ACOM. The incumbent is expected to contribute significantly to the design and development of the project, present results at scientific meetings, and prepare peer-reviewed publications.
