Associate Vice President of ITS

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of ITS shares in the day-to-day responsibilities and leadership of the Information Technology department along with the Chief Information Officer. The AVP is also responsible for the Student Information System (SIS) and all related applications and integrations. This position regularly interacts with the Enterprise Infrastructure team on server maintenance, hosted application maintenance, and security, network, and infrastructure initiatives. This position also regularly interacts with the Enterprise Support team on software, network, and infrastructure support and response. The AVP will decide with the CIO and CFO the project priority and resource allocation for the department, and disseminate to all key stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology Services department. Additionally, this position oversees the overall success of the Student Information System (SIS) and all of its integrated components, planning, budgeting, implementation, and supporting the technology including but is not limited to: data center, corporate cloud, network and server services, telecommunications, service monitoring, servers, storage and related software and hardware. This position is operationally responsible for ensuring availability, integrity, continuous improvement, and protecting enterprise IT systems, infrastructure, and related technologies. The AVP supports the Enterprise Infrastructure team and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in IT security, driving the IT security strategy and implementation forward while protecting the college from security threats and cyber-hacking. The AVP will also be responsible for ongoing disaster recovery & business continuity planning. The AVP will act as a campus wide point of escalation and resolution. The AVP will also act as a central point of communication for the CIO and CFO by providing project artifacts and status regularly.

1. Application, Network, Security, System, and Department Planning:
  • Ensure the plan, design and documentation of Enterprise Applications, SIS, Processes, Reports are current in accordance with industry standards;
  • Ensure plan, design, and documentation of network is in accordance with industry standards;
  • Ensure the design, development, and documentation of the network security standards and ensure, with best effort, that all data network resources are secure;
  • Responsible for the planning, direction and oversight of the Enterprise Applications, Enterprise hardware and technology, network and IT infrastructure including major upgrades, technology implementations, and system changes;
  • Work with internal and external partners to plan and test the disaster recovery plan;
  • Oversee the application redundancy and contingency plan with the ITS leadership and stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted service to the college;
  • Oversee the development of enterprise-wide security programs;
  • Ensure the successful rollout of ITS enterprise initiatives by communicating with core stakeholders internal and external.

2. Day-to-day Functions:
  • Responsible for overseeing the ITS staff that handles day-to-day client relationship, network & server infrastructure technologies, and enterprise applications;
  • Respond to escalated client reported issues and concerns regarding network, infrastructure, security, applications, and hardware;
  • Use ticketing system reports to determine service request response times;
  • Provide first hand leadership guidance and management oversight for critical incident resolutions and root cause analysis;
  • Oversee Internet filtering, spam blocking, and IPS/firewall signature databases, consulting with others when needed;
  • Stay abreast of up-to-date networking standards and technology upgrades;
  • Develop training plans to enhance technical, analytical and business capability across the team;
  • Partner with the Enterprise Infrastructure Team in identifying necessary enhancements and solutions to meeting the processing capacity and stability needs of production;
  • Maintain current knowledge of systems, network hardware and software through ongoing training programs and professional certifications;
  • Cross train with team members to improve overall administration of systems and applications to ensure efficient and effective delivery of technology resources.

3. Ongoing Functions:
  • Partner with Enterprise Support, Enterprise Infrastructure, CIO, and CFO to build and maintain the current and next fiscal year budget;
  • Administer performance evaluations based on collaboration with the CIO and the CFO;
  • Attend and participate in any current or future committee meetings;
  • Perform any current or future administrative tasks to ensure the continued function of ITS including but not limited to, timesheet approval, onboardings, separations, performance improvement plans, etc.

4. Customer Service:
  • Cultivate positive relationships with departments to build confidence and trust;
  • Promote departmental culture of exemplary customer service though frequent communication, positive relations and prompt support;
  • Maintain an effective and positive system of communication between the Technology Center and faculty, staff, students, administration, and the virtual team of technologists.

5. Policies and Procedures:
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of the college network, systems and data;
  • Comply with federal and state regulations, college policies and internal procedures;
  • Recommend updates to college policies and internal procedures.

Additional Functions:
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related area.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible computer information systems experience, with management experience and current technical acumen in at least one of these areas: IT Infrastructure Services or Applications Development and Support Services.
  • An up-to-date and working knowledge of computer, data, and network security as it relates to College or University operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles, processes, and requirements for strategic planning and development within a private institution.
  • Skills in business and financial planning and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and record of achievement in information systems management within a large, diverse, multipurpose institution.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering information technology organizations, including: formulating
  • policy, developing and implementing new strategies, and re-architecting operating units and procedures.
  • Initiates and develops positive working relationships with internal agents of the College and external clients, relationships that are built on trust and integrity.

Other Requirements of the Job:
  • 8+ years related experience, 5+ in management role, preferably at college or university.
  • Strong knowledge of administrative systems specific to higher education from both technical and user support perspectives.
  • Strong organizational/project management skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures to make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, end-users and staff.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends in response to support and project issues to minimize downtime during production hours and to respond to emergencies.

Salary Range: $140,000-$150,000 annually
