Responsibilities

Howmet Aerospace's Wichita Falls, TX facility has an opening for Metal Operator.

MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 12 HOUR ROTATING NIGHT SHIFTS, 7:00 P.M TO 7:00 A.M. (2 on 2 off, 3 on 2 off, 2 on 3 off)

Hourly pay rate begins at $20.55 (plus 1.00 shift differential for night shifts)

JOB SUMMARY

Works under general supervision to process castings through final gauging to meet customer requirements as prescribed by the PMS/product criteria, visual specifications and QAS specifications. Dimensionally gauges and adjusts dimensions to comply with the prescribed written instructions using a variety of gauges, special tools, and blast cabinets. The employee must plan and perform the proper sequence of set-ups, operations, and processes.
Pay increases within this job classification are determined by earning qualifications in the following skill areas; blasting, finishing, wall gauge, and dimensional inspection gauging. Pay increases from Base to Max pay as qualifications are acquired. Max pay requires qualification in at least 3 skills.
*Gauge Tech pay will be submitted weekly to HR by the metal supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Using Computers (entering information, etc)
* Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI).
* Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
* Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
* Comply with all site required policies and procedures including but not limited to: EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES

1. Verifies castings to the lot travelers to assure that all previous operations have been completed.
2. Performs finishing as required using all types of burrs, belts, nylon wheels, blast cabinets, etc.
3. Understands and uses all dimensional inspection gauges.
4. Ensures that all parts meet PMS/product criteria requirements.
5. Calibrates gauges to set masters as applicable.
6. Inspects according to written instructions using electronic or manual gauges.
7. Adjusts and/or repairs out of tolerance castings using small hand tools, air gun,
arbor press, hydraulic press, and special fixtures to bring castings into tolerance.
8. Records information on proper paperwork such as SRON's.
9. Cleans and lubricates gauges as required.
10. Notifies gauge maintenance technician of gauges that may need repair.
11. Maintains work area in clean, orderly, and safe condition.
12. Takes technical direction from product engineering and gauge technician, (i.e., techniques, instructions, etc.).
13. Performs other operations as required.
14. Performs first visual inspection.
15. Complies with all EHS rules related to the work environment.
16. Must apply gauging specifications and work with decimal dimensioning and recording.
17. Must develop a sense of touch and judgment to prevent breaking or bending when bringing castings back into tolerance by using non-standard methods or procedures.

*Gauge Tech Responsibilities include:

  • Usage of Hoist
  • Setting Up/Tearing Down Gauges
  • Troubleshooting
  • Basic 5S of Gauges
  • Manage Gauge Storage Area/Return Gauges to Proper Location
  • Audit Gaugers
  • After responsibilities are complete, gauge tech will run regular production

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITES

* Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations
* Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Requires wearing safety glasses, earplugs, gloves and Metatarsal shoes.
* Report all job-related illness and injuries (Per Employee Handbook).
* Report all safety, health and environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.
* Attend all EHS training.

  • Push,pull and twist
  • Floor-to-waist lift and carry, lifting and carrying to the waist high level, carrying items with two hands.
  • Gripping and pinching

  • Hand/Arm Vibration
  • Be able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Moderate lifting > 50 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity to operate computer equipment and precision measuring instruments.
  • Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments.
  • Squatting/crouching/bending when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, moving equipment / product inspections, etc.
  • Frequently Standing when gauging
  • Frequent sitting when wall gauging or finishing.
  • Clean work areas and maintain a clean work environment; perform 5S cleaning activities as required.

3. Work Environment:
* May be exposed to noise, oil, dust, fumes, chemicals, heat and cold.
* Requires wearing of safety glasses, metal tarsal shoes, hearing protection and gloves. (Gauge Tech must wear hard hat)

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
