What you'll do

The primary responsibility of the NOC Network Analyst is to ensure the continued integrity, stability and security of the customer network. The NOC Analyst will also be the primary interface with various Engineering groups, and to facilitate fluid transfer of information for both implementation and service restoration.


The day-to-day

  • Ensure maximum possible service availability and performance of the Viasat Energy Services (VES) Network
  • Perform active first and second level troubleshooting of all supported systems for the CSC
  • Full knowledge of all RF equipment, network equipment, telephony equipment, T-1/E-1 carrier systems, TCP/IP and VoIP
  • Proactively monitor the network using existing NMS systems to address unreported outages
  • Provide updates for assigned incident tickets related to active service issues or requests
  • Manage incident resolution within the shift, reassigning incident tickets or calls to other technicians as needed
  • Ensure that any blocking issues, critical issues, customer concerns, issues, or partner concerns are addressed according to VES standards, following the appropriate notification procedures and IMP processes
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures to achieve timely resolution while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Provide direction and guidance to customers and technicians during the trouble-shooting process including, but not limited to, remote site equipment problems and issues, installation, testing, verification of satellite link performance and RF communication systems
  • Ensure clear and concise documentation of work performed, and processes followed, in the trouble ticket
  • Participate in the Change Management process, ensuring notifications are provided to affected customers in line with VES policy

What you'll need

  • B.S. Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or related sciences required
  • Vendor/Industry Certifications: Cisco - CCNA or 3+ years of demonstrated networking experience (CCENT or 3+ years will be acceptable if candidate has at least 3 years of VSAT experience)
  • At least 5 years in a technical role supporting satellite communications systems (VSAT)
  • Experience working with/for the oil and gas industry
  • Ability to effectively direct personnel in an emergency
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend complex instructions and detailed correspondence
  • Ability to solve problems using resourcefulness and solid judgment skills
  • Strong knowledge with Cisco network equipment (routers, switches)
  • Strong knowledge in service provider technologies (MPLS, QoS, Netflow etc.)
  • Strong knowledge on TCP/IP, Routing (OSPF, BGP, RIP)
  • Strong knowledge of various satellite communications technology and equipment (iDirect, Newtec, Comtech, SeaTel, Intellian, etc.)

What will help you on the job

  • Experience working with/for the oil and gas industry
  • At least 3 years in a technical role supporting satellite communications systems (VSAT)
  • At least 3 years in a customer support role supporting customers remotely
  • Vendor/Industry Certifications: Cisco - CCNA or 3+ years of demonstrated networking experience

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional overnight travel and weekend and/or evening work.

Description: This position requires a moderate amount of stamina with the ability to perform the above essential job functions and within timetables. Some overtime work will be required.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift up to 5 lbs. frequently and up to 15 lbs. occasionally for short durations.

Carrying: The employee must be able to carry up to 5 lbs. frequently and up to 15 lbs. occasionally for short distances.

Pushing/Pulling: The employee must be able to push/pull up to 5 lbs. frequently and up to 15 lbs. occasionally usually from desk level to floor or floor to desk level.

Other Physical Requirements: Upper extremity usage, motor coordination, range of motion, vision, hearing and balance should be in a range to safely preclude the harm or injury to the employee in this position or the harm or injury to other employees.

Environmental Considerations: The employee will in most cases work in a central air-conditioned building; however, may be exposed to dust, fumes or gases and to changes of weather when exposed to outdoors at job sites or other locations.


Salary range

$34.13 - $48.56 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $42.55 - $57.45/ hourly
