Position Description
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Theatre. We seek a dynamic and accomplished artist-teacher with a strong commitment to excellence in both musical and non-musical theatre, current theatre pedagogy and trends, and academic scholarship.
The Bass School at UT Dallas is a multidisciplinary academic research school with leading-edge programs in the visual and performing arts, humanities, animation and games, and critical and emerging media. We seek candidates with a record of accomplishment, the potential to build a distinguished body of artistic and/or scholarly achievements, and advanced teaching experience to join our faculty.
The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A Ph.D. or equivalent in Theatre with specialization in acting, performance, or directing, or an M.F.A. or equivalent in Theatre, or a related discipline is required prior to employment; those with
ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Professional union affiliations (
AEA,
SAG/
AFTRA,
AGVA,
SDC, or others) are preferred, as well as at least two years teaching college-level coursework appropriate to the area of focus. Ability to serve as an intimacy director (and/or willingness to be trained to serve in this capacity) for departmental programs. Experience and interest in teaching such specific topics as stage combat, languages of the body, stage movement/blocking, or additional focused studies are desirable.

* Statement of teaching philosophy describing their conceptualizations of teaching and learning, and teaching and assessment methods, and how their teaching practices will engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Following preliminary review, selected applicants will be asked to submit two recorded examples of staged performances in contrasting styles, a description of their research agenda (if appropriate), and reference letters will be requested.
