Role Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Modelling Engineer to operate and improve electrochemical models to guide the development of battery cells in Form Energy's long-duration energy storage system. You will contribute to cell research and development through multi-physics modeling studies of battery electrochemical and thermal performance, in collaboration with the Research & Development Team.

Through close collaborations with senior modelers, you will learn and implement appropriate governing equations and boundary conditions of the model. You will also work closely with battery and test engineers to validate your models using experimental data collected at Form. This is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact in an exciting energy technology startup.

What you'll do:
  • Develop, optimize, and operate multiphysics electrochemical and thermal models to answer cell design questions and to drive design and experimental directions

  • Communicate model results clearly to the broader Research & Development team to drive the decision-making process

  • Explain to non-experts the assumptions and limitations in a model, and what those signify for the results

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to validate models against experimental results and implement optimized designs in new product prototypes

  • Learn new modeling and analytics tools as necessary

What you'll bring:
  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical engineering, Electrochemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

  • Previous experience in modeling relevant electrochemical system phenomena such as electrochemical reactions, mass transport, heat transfer, or chemical reactions for battery, fuel cell, electrodeposition, or electrolyzer electrodes

  • Applicants with practical experience modeling with commercial FEA (finite element analysis)/FVM (finite volume model) software packages, such as COMSOL, Abaqus, MOOSE, or ANSYS/Fluent will be given priority

  • Ability to rapidly grasp physical phenomena governing electrochemical and thermal models and ability to reason through analyses in addition to working with FEA

  • Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization including with remote team members
