Sanitation Manager - Operations

The Sanitation Manager is primarily responsible for all activities involved in maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior areas of the premises and ensures the high standards of health, disinfection, and sanitation guidelines for the coffee plants wet and dry areas are maintained. The incumbent in this role coordinates assignment and duties, trains and develops Sanitation team members, exams work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications. This position will report to the Assistant Plant Manager
Job Duties:


  • Working cross functionally and collaboratively with WRC Operations, QA, and Chemical Supply Vendors, develop, implement and continuously improve on sanitation programs, policies, and key performance indicators (KPI's)
  • Manage Chemical Supplier
  • Review all plant monthly sanitation service reports for outstanding action items requiring corrective action. Ensure monthly meetings are held with the Chemical Supply company to ensure closure of all action items. Include plant and operations team members as needed
  • Engage supplier as needed to assist with mitigation activities
  • Evaluate current and new chemicals and sanitation tools and provide feedback and recommendation for use
  • Participate in annual vendor survey, ensure plant participation, and communicate results
  • Ensure new plant Sanitarians complete Sanitation training and outline on-going refresher training on products and use
  • Create and deliver education and technical support to ensure effective deployment and implementation of sanitation and food safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure that manufacturing facility have the systems, knowledge, capabilities, and practices to comply with all pertinent food regulations and company procedures with respect to sanitation

  • Conduct periodic sanitation audits against the consistent application and execution of procedures and all related sanitation practices. Ensure CAPA's are created and closed out
  • Manage Sanitation Verification Programs
  • Provide standardized procedures, testing, and data management programs (ATP, Zone 1 microbial testing)
  • Ensure trending and action items as needed
  • Monitor emerging issues related to sanitation and food safety and develop strategies and policies accordingly. Ensure sanitation goals and objectives are clearly defined and current for our facility
  • Ensure all SOP's are current and annually reviewed. Assist with the creation of SOP's. Provide technical support and advise Operations management on effectiveness of plant sanitation and cleaning programs (SOP's)
  • Manage and verify MSS and Sanitary PM schedules
  • Guide manufacturing facility during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological and environmental control

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Sanitation, Food Safety, Food Technology, or a related field with a background in Biology, Microbiology and/or Chemistry
  • 5+ years of food plant experience
  • Experience with dairy products, ice cream, cheese, and milk powders preferred
  • Experience with regulatory, third party, and customer audits
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with diverse sanitizing applications
  • Extensive knowledge of CIP systems and process automation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate wet cleaning and dry-cleaning methodology and be able to identify the appropriate cleaning method and make effective recommendations based on scientific principles
  • Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment
  • Certification and/or License -- None required, although certification in professional field desired (e.g., REH/RS, CQA, CQE)
  • Must demonstrate proven critical thinking, people and team development skills, strategic aptitude, and independent leadership.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment with cross functional departments
  • Able to communicate professionally, both orally and written
  • Able to understand and analyze issues involving food manufacturing/food safety, project management, mathematics (including statistics), and technical and legal documents
  • Able to provide supervision, guidance, effective training, and counsel to others
  • Able to effectively organize, coordinate, and execute
  • Able to understand food and environmental regulations and their impact on the organization and our customers
  • Able to understand technical documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to follow operating instructions as outlined
