Position description

This position will collaborate directly with the Principal Investigator(s), laboratory members, and a network of collaborators. It will be involved in breast cancer research projects that aim at identifying risk variants in diverse populations and building prediction models. The position will also support Dr. Fejerman's activities linked to the Latin American Genomics of Breast Cancer Consortium (LAGENO-BC) and the NCI Confluence Project.

Research (90%)

This position will be involved in breast cancer genomics research, supporting the organization of the research infrastructure in the Fejerman Lab, and conducting basic descriptive analysis as well as developing expertise to support more complex research within the lab. The candidate will develop familiarity with state-of-the-art genetic discovery approaches and the literature on breast cancer health disparities in minority populations. The Junior Specialist will be encouraged to formulate new hypotheses, design new analyses test those hypotheses and conduct the newly designed research. Professional competencies include ability to present research findings, critical reading of primary literature as it relates to the research project, and careful and effective documentation of research results. The Junior Specialist will support the LAGENO-BC consortium, helping Dr. Fejerman with any logistics and organizational needs related to it.

Professional Competence (5%)

Depending on interest and availability of travel funds, the Junior Specialist will have opportunities to travel to cancer research scientific conferences. The candidate will also assist the investigator in presenting progress reports and final summaries to granting agencies as well as any necessary IRB amendments.

University and Public Service (5%)

The candidate will engage in Genome Center and Cancer Center service by joining a committee of their choice. The candidate will engage in outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  1. Minimum level of education required: Baccalaureate degree with a major or a minor in Biology or Medicine focused.
  2. Fluent in English and conversational Spanish.
  3. Good communication skills.
  4. Good organizational skills and management experience.
  5. Experience in public health and health equity research and programs.
