Construction Project Accountant

Oversees financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Monthly Client Billing:

  • Reviews subcontractor monthly draw applications, determines contract balance, resolves billing discrepancies, initiates Time and Materials (T&M) billing, and works on billing approval with the Project Manager.
  • Identifies allowable job cost reimbursement, labor rates, and maps client billing in adherence with Prime Contract.
  • Meets all accounting deadlines.

Job Costing:

  • Regularly performs job cost analysis and billing audits to identify and resolve over/under billings, maintain subcontractor payment ledger within multiple accounting software, and perform month end duties within deadline.
  • Supports the project team to make informed decisions by establishing methods to accurately track and interpret job cost related activities.
  • Identifies and utilizes financial reporting resources to maintain project budget and assist in month end forecasting.

Project Compliance & Audit:

  • Assists Finance team with project financial reporting and year end audit and leads financial project close- out accounting activities.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promotes safety during the performance of all daily project responsibilities.

Teamwork:

  • Acts as a mentor to more junior staff.
  • Participates in the development and improvement of department processes and procedures (as needed).
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Adept in learning new software quickly.
  • Advanced knowledge of database information flow/costing software preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with accounting systems, Workday and/or CMiC or Textura is a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

* Six years' work experience to include 2 years' construction accounting experience.

Range of base pay is $98,000-$120,000. Actual pay is based on individual skill level and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
