PURPOSE
FormFactor is a leading provider of essential test and measurement technologies along the full IC life cycle - from characterization, modeling, reliability, and design debug, to qualification and production test.
FormFactor's Field Applications Engineering Team partners extensively with some of the world's foremost semiconductor manufacturers to solve their most complex test and validation challenges. The Field Applications Engineer is responsible for technical sales inquiries and direct product support. This position partners with the Sales Channel or works directly with customers in the pre and post sales process to identify customer needs and support products at a very technical level. Product and application training to users of FormFactor products in the field is a key function of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work interactively with customers to understand the complexities of their application challenges and formulate solutions independently and through collaboration with our engineering teams.
  • Solid ability to understand and document customer requirements and deliverables, and to translate these into engineering requirements.
  • Collaborate with our internal engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to resolve production, technical, and operational challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously.
  • Create content and deliver technical overviews, demos, seminars, and workshops for clients, fellow engineers and/or Sales.
  • Systematically solves problems and hypothesizes possible client pain points, expectations, and implicit needs.
  • Identifies the right client stakeholders and builds connections quickly to drive consensus for design wins; works cooperatively with a wide range of internal stakeholders for success. Brainstorms with team members to devise solutions to solve complex client challenges.
  • Goes out of their way to complete a task and has relentless drive to achieve results; is independent and self-directed and takes initiative.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED


  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in field applications engineering or technical support, ideally in Silicon Photonics and/or semiconductor test.
  • Solid background in optics or in Silicon Photonics.
  • Direct experience with electronics lab equipment and procedures such as Tunable Laser Source, Polarization Synthesizers, Optical Power Meters. Experience in semiconductor testers such as Advantest or Teradyne is a great plus.
  • Desired experience: familiarity with testing technologies from single fibers to arrays, and from vertical coupling to edge coupling, autonomous calibration and re-calibration at multiple temperatures.
  • Typical Software: MatLab, Zemax. Python or the ability to develop basic scripts would be beneficial.
  • Travel: US and international up to 30%.



The pay range for this role in Livermore, CA is between $110,700 and $145,320. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
