Position Highlights This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

The University of Arizona's SNAP-Ed and Nutritional Sciences Evaluation team conducts statewide evaluations of food systems and active living public health interventions for grant-funded projects that support health equity. The campus team conducts evaluation of community engagement, the implementation of Policy, Systems, and Environmental change interventions, and the evaluation of nutrition and physical activity education statewide.

The Data Specialist will work directly with the Data Analyst to assist in data entry, reporting, survey tracking and other administrative tasks as necessary. The main job activities are data entry and management of incoming surveys and assessments, from intake to archive, including security of information at all stages. Working as an essential team member, the successful candidate will: (1) manage database-related procedures utilizing Qualtrics, Excel and Google Docs, (2) track and maintain complete and accurate system documentation for activities, (3) assist in preparing high quality project deliverables via data organization, data entry and monthly tracking reports, and (4) other duties as assigned, including similar tasks on other projects as applicable.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs timely and accurate data entry by entering and recording data from electronic and hard copy source materials.
  • Assists Data Analyst in developing summary data reports in Microsoft Excel.
  • Creates/manages databases and tracks survey responses using UA Qualtrics.
  • Reviews and verifies source materials to determine accuracy and completeness of information; follows up to correct or complete data.
  • Compiles, sorts, codes and counts data to be entered.
  • Updates records by changing, merging or adding data to files.
  • Verifies entered data ensuring accuracy. Identifies and reconciles routine and complex data discrepancies. Identifies data entry errors and makes corrections.
  • Develops and manages various tracking sheets in Excel and ensures accuracy of Monthly Trackers. Disseminates reports according to established procedures.
  • Maintains paper and digital survey management via intake logs, filing and organizational structures.
  • Ensures the security of hard copy and digital information at all stages.
  • Updates documentation of protocols/procedures as needed.
  • Checks, reviews and prepares records, reports, forms or other documents of various kinds pertinent to assigned function(s); investigates complicated problems or errors.
  • Plans and prioritizes workload to meet set deadlines.
  • Assists staff with special projects as needed.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all job duties including interactions with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates responsiveness and a sense of responsibility when managing duties.
  • Supports individual and team goals and initiatives; accepts ownership for individual results.
  • Actively participates in Evaluation Team Meetings, Data Meetings, and other in-person and remote meetings, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Google Docs.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization and time management.
  • Skill in recording and compiling material for reports.
  • Ability to navigate within a computer systems-environment and learn new systems as needed with minimal oversight.
  • Skill in reviewing and verifying data.
  • Skill in extracting and compiling information from databases.
