HDR is currently seeking a highly motivated Area Accounting Manager to effectively lead a team of project accountants to ensure procedures and practices are being followed in accordance with company policy and accounting principles. The Area Accounting Manager position supports the local Area Management. This position provides assurance to the Area Manager and Regional Accounting and Operations Directors that practices and procedures are being followed in accordance with HDR policies, HDR accounting principles, and federal government compliance standards. In addition to an individual that possesses analytical skills, this individual must also possess leadership and management skills necessary to effectively orchestrate accounting staff in the performance of various project-financial functions. The primary responsibilities of this position will be leadership and support for all facets of project and contract financial management, as well as, ensuring general accounting functions are maintained for the Area.
This position will oversee accounting staff with position responsibilities to include training, utilization, performance appraisals and day-to-day supervising. In the role of Area Accounting Manager, we'll count on you to:
- Collaborate with Area/Regional Leadership on various accounting projects to ensure firm-wide financial goals are being met; prioritize business requests and execute in a timely manner
- Identify and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as multiplier, profitability, and other financial trends for all projects/contracts.
- Working directly with the Area Operations Manager and Regional Accounting Director (RAD) to manager and coordinate department and project accounting systems to monitor department general ledger accounts, project budgets, invoicing, payables, receivables, and other related financial information
- Perform specialized accounting functions and establish internal controls for procedures and practices in accordance with company policies, accounting procedures and contractual obligations
- Supervise and train a team of project accountants
- Make staffing recommendations to management
- Lead project accountants in working with project managers in reviewing project costs and proactively managing project budgets
- Hands on project cost accounting required in order to support workflow management of the local Area's Accounting Group
- Schedule/Participate in monthly project reviews/audits
- Responsible for the creation of specialized financial reports and projects unique to management needs
- Analyze project cost system, research, and correct accounting related problems or issues as they arise
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting
- 3+ years direct management experience in accounting department/function
- 5+ years of progressive project/general accounting experience in A&E consulting or other service industry
- Strong understanding of all financial business processing: compliance, implementation of best practices, financial controls
- Experience with cost or project accounting and budgeting
- Familiarity with complex invoicing requirements of local and state agencies
- Strong people skills with positive attitude and customer service orientation
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities as well as establish and meet deadlines
- Detail and solution-oriented with good problem-solving skills
- Excellent organization and analytical skills
- Oracle EBS/Hyperion experience a plus
- Some travel between HDR offices may be required
- Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 5 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience
- Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
- Excellent verbal and written communication including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to handle confidential information
