Summary

The successful Inbound Transportation Planner is the key point of contact and freight coordinator for all new lift truck (i.e., forklift) deliveries coming from the factory and inbound to our branches and customers. This individual is responsible for processing transportation requests with our preferred carrier (s) to ensure on-time product delivery to our customers while controlling transportation costs. The planner will also serve as a liaison between carrier(s), the factory, and LiftOne personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, schedule, and ensure the timely delivery of the company's inbound freight using a Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Work closely with sales personnel, factory coordinators and carrier(s) to ensure orders are being picked up and delivered on time along with accurate reporting
  • Respond to requests for status updates with timely, accurate order status and carrier information; provide proactive communication on issues
  • Build and maintain carrier relationships to support the business
  • Deliver transportation savings for business through load consolidation and identification of other opportunities to optimize transportation costs
  • Strive for continuous improvement by recommending methods, standards, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned, such as transportation compliance audits, KPI reporting, and project support

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma required, an associate degree from an accredited university or 2+ years of previous experience working in a fast-paced transportation planning setting
  • Strong customer service experience and communication skills
  • Experience working with freight carriers
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems is strongly desired

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, depending on site location, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in some work environments is occasionally loud.
