The University of California Irvine's Center for Educational Partnerships (CFEP) housed in the Office of Educational & Community Partnerships (OECP) creates collaborations that support preparation for and success in higher education. Our focus is on equity and access for all students in order to achieve the University of California's goal of academic excellence. The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) provides intensive learning and discovery in a four-week high school residential program on the UCI campus taught by UCI faculty and their colleagues in California higher education. The mission is to motivate and encourage talented students in math and science to explore STEM topics and support college and career goals in STEM.


Your Role on the Team

Under the direction of a higher-level K-14 Academic Preparation Specialist, works with assigned institutions and organizations to implement academic preparation programming of moderate scope. Maintains program visibility in schools. Maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 institutions and / or community entities. Maintains relationships with higher education institutions.

Required:

  • Experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged and academically at-risk students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education.
  • Supervise Cosmos residential staff and manage residential life component.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, and sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
  • Knowledge of COSMOS mission and purpose, and application process for COSMOS Statewide as well as Statewide policies related to student eligibility and financial assistance
  • Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
  • Experience with summer residential program design, management and implementation.

Special Conditions:

  • Ability to be on call 24 hours while high school COSMOS students are in residency. Must be willing and available to work for all COSMOS program dates each summer. Willingess to work evenings and weekends leading up to and during COSMOS summer residential program, as needed. Access to car and valid insurance.
