Nature of Work: This is manual labor focused on the accurate and timely locating of City of Omaha underground sewer infrastructure and water, power, and communication lines in response to state-required One Call utility location requests. General supervision and assignments are received from an assigned supervisor.

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school graduation or its equivalent is preferred.

Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Pay Range: $19.22 with step increases to $27.66 Hourly

Who Can Apply: Eligibility lists will be created for one Closed Competitive list and one Open Competitive list. Applicants for the Closed competitive lists must be a current or former City of Omaha employee in any of the following categories: Part-time, Seasonal, Classified, Unclassified, or Probationary, who has worked, at the time of application, at least 1,040 cumulative hours within the last 5 years and has been employed by the City at sometime within the last 18 months and who meets the qualifications as set forth in the posting. Applicants for the Open Competitive list shall be all other persons who meet the qualifications as set forth in the posting.

How to Apply: Completed City of Omaha employment applications must be submitted using the online application from the City website. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to check and ensure that any and all required application materials and supplemental forms are received by the City of Omaha Human Resources Department by the stated deadline. You may confirm receipt of any materials and forms by contacting the Human Resources Department. If the materials are not received in the Human Resources Department by the stated deadline, they will not be considered. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be on January 3, 2025, at the Omaha/Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam St. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 50%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.

Veteran Points: Open Competitive Candidates: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by January 3, 2025.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge and ability to utilize a computer or mobile electronic devices, software, and applications for One Call ticket processing and GIS mapping system.
* Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the One Call Laws of Nebraska and Iowa.
* Skill in the maintenance and use of assigned tools and equipment.
* Skill in reading "as-built" plans and maps to find and paint the location of utilities in the field.
* Ability to become proficient in using underground cable tracking equipment and magnetic locating device.
* Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
* Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, contractors, utilities company staff, the Nebraska and Iowa One Call System staff, and members of the general public.
* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronic device technology and software.
* Ability to learn and apply Manual on Uniform Traffic control Devices (MUTCD) rules for Work Zone Safety and Temporary Traffic Control (TTC).
* Ability to balance, stand, walk, and lift for up 75 to 100% of the time; reach, bend, stoop, and push for 50 - 75% of the time; kneel for up to two hours or more; and climb, squat, crouch, and walk on uneven surfaces up to 25% of the time.
* Ability to move objects weighing up to one hundred (120) pounds of force up to 50% of the time.

Essential Functions: Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this class.

* Evaluates the necessity of locating utilities for Nebraska and Iowa One Call Locate Tickets.
* Locates utilities in an accurate and timely manner for the City's sanitary and sanitary combined and storm water collection systems, and marks ground surfaces showing sewer pipe and structure locations.
* Locates traffic signal power and communication lines in an accurate and timely manner using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software.
* Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
* Documents work completed through clear and accurate entry in the work order system.
* Clears snow from sidewalks, walkways, and stairs.
* Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
