Manager, Security Engineering

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Network & Security Engineering, the Manager of Security Engineering will lead and manage the organization's security engineering team, providing strategic direction and hands-on oversight of security tools, processes, and projects to protect sensitive data, systems, and applications. This role requires a strong background in security technologies, combined with leadership capabilities to drive team performance and align security initiatives with organizational goals.

The Manager of Security Engineering will be responsible for building and maintaining a high-performing team, managing security projects, and fostering collaboration across IT, compliance, and business units. This position involves balancing technical expertise with leadership and strategic planning to proactively enhance the organization's security posture.

This position requires the ability to be on call and available 24x7 as needed to support the organization during security incidents, critical upgrades, or other time-sensitive situations, ensuring the continuous security and availability of systems and data.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management:



  • Lead and manage the Security Engineering team, including recruitment, development, performance management, and mentoring.
  • Perform annual performance and review processes, providing constructive feedback, setting goals, and fostering professional growth for team members.
  • Set team objectives and priorities, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall security strategy.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.


Security Architecture & Implementation:



  • Oversee the design and deployment of security tools ensuring they are optimized for the organization's needs.
  • Guide the team in developing secure configurations for systems, applications and SIEM solutions.
  • Ensure effective integration of identity governance and privileged access management tools.


Incident Response & Threat Management:



  • Play a key role and support the incident response protocols, ensuring the team can effectively detect, mitigate, and resolve security incidents.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex security incidents, coordinating with other teams as needed.
  • Oversee email security systems and other technologies to protect against advanced threats.


Cloud & Endpoint Security Oversight:



  • Provide leadership in the implementation and management of endpoint and cloud security solutions.
  • Ensure secure file transfer systems are operational and compliant with data integrity standards.


Vulnerability & Risk Management:



  • Lead the organization's vulnerability management program, including scanning, reporting, and remediation using tools.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and guide the development of mitigation strategies to address gaps.


Strategic Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:



  • Partner with IT, Network, and Application teams to develop secure architectures and ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Act as a primary liaison between the security team and business stakeholders, translating technical requirements into actionable business strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory and compliance requirements through collaboration with compliance and legal teams.


Policy Development & Best Practices:



  • Involved in the development, review, and enforcement of security policies, procedures, and standards across the organization.
  • Stay current on emerging threats and technologies, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.


Project Management:



  • Oversee security engineering projects, ensuring proper planning, resource allocation, and on-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security considerations into broader IT and business projects.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT security, including at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise with a variety of security tools and technologies, including endpoint protection, vulnerability management, firewalls, identity management, and data protection solutions.
  • Experience with SIEM tools and endpoint security solutions.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles.
  • Proven track record of leading incident response, vulnerability management, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or related credentials are strongly preferred.
