Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Health Education and Promotion, the Student Life Development Specialist has overall responsibility for project oversight, coordination, and implementation of all Collegiate Recovery Programming. The Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator will focus on best practice models, including harm reduction strategies, sober curiosity approaches, and moderation techniques in recovery. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of health disparities affecting marginalized and underserved populations. The Coordinator will also emphasize the importance of reducing stigma and fostering inclusion through trauma-informed practices. The Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator will support Student Health and Counseling Services in developing and growing efforts related to students in recovery at the University of California, Davis.

This role involves planning, developing, and implementing programs and services that support students in their non-academic lives at the university. Areas of focus include residential life, public service, student conduct, gender identity, leadership development, student organization advising, and more. Key programs will encompass peer recovery support, service opportunities, sober social activities/events, and initiatives aimed at promoting academic success. Through these efforts, the Collegiate Recovery Coordinator will play a vital role in fostering the growth and success of all students.

In addition to supporting students in recovery, the coordinator will provide valuable resources and materials for their friends and family members. This position will also involve educating the campus community about recovery, serving as the primary point of contact for students within the Collegiate Recovery Program, and promoting an inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue and support.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work or in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience developing, implementing and assessing recovery programming to support college students' academic success and overall health & wellness.
  • Experience with event planning, program development, coordination and evaluation.
  • Experience with community organizing strategies and principles for reducing the societal stigma to substance use dependency.
  • Demonstrated skills to train and supervise student employees.
  • Demonstrated skills to make presentations to groups of students, staff and/or faculty and to facilitate small group discussions.
  • Interpersonal skills and political acumen to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and perspectives.
  • Skills to plan and implement marketing, social marketing, and social media and public relations activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commitment to promoting the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all students feel welcome and supported.
  • Experience working with students in a university/college environment.
  • Experience coordinating projects requiring interactions with many individuals.
  • Experience working with students in recovery and undergoing substance dependency related care.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, urgent care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 160 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health) and APA (American Psychological Association), IACS (International Association for Counseling Services). Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
