Position description

The Department Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UC Davis School of Medicine and Shriners Children's - Northern California is co-recruiting for a full-time (100% time) academic pediatric rehabilitation physiatrist. The position will serve as a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical academic tracks, commensurate with experience.

Shriners Children's - Northern California is a surgical subspecialty hospital located on the campus of UC Davis Health in Sacramento that provides comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation care to children from all over the western United States and Mexico, in addition to burn surgery, pediatric surgery, and orthopaedics. The UC Davis Department of PM&R and Shriners Children's is the premiere pediatric rehabilitation service provider in the greater Sacramento region and home to the only acute inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit. Sacramento is an easily accessible, family-oriented city in close proximity to the San Francisco Bay area, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the California coast, and Napa Valley.

Requirements

This position will provide both inpatient and outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation patient care with a focus on pediatric rehabilitation. This position will have an approximate 50/50 split of inpatient and outpatient pediatric rehabilitation care, including specialty clinics in traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, hypertonicity management including procedures, and community-based clinics through California Children's Services (CCS).

This position will provide both formal didactic sessions and clinical supervision for students, house staff, and a PRM fellow, as well as participate in departmental meetings, conferences, and hospital and departmental committees. This position will participate in evening/weekend/holiday call for the UC Davis PM&R inpatient pediatric rehabilitation call. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Must have completed an approved Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program
  • Must be board certified or eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Board certification or eligibility in pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment and adhere to University policy and procedures

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Must be eligible for licensure in the State of California and/or have an active California medical license

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in an academic clinical setting
