Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  1. Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology, or a master's degree in counseling/social work
  2. Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a mental health care professional in the state of North Carolina. Please note: current doctoral interns are encouraged to apply and can start in the summer of 2025 if they are qualified and would be eligible for licensure within 1 year of the start date.
  3. Experience providing clinical services and outreach programming to student-athletes.

License/Certification Required

  1. Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, or related field, or master's degree in counseling, Social Work, or related field and eligibility for appropriate licensure in North Carolina.
  2. Experience providing clinical services and outreach programming to student-athletes.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Generalist clinical skills assessing a wide range of disorders and pathology.
2. Commitment to providing culturally responsive clinical services and outreach programming to historically underserved populations.
3. Interest and experience providing clinical supervision to doctoral and master's level trainees.
4. Experience providing consultation in a university setting and building collaborative relationships with coaches, trainers, and other Athletics Department staff.
5. Experience with the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, ideally with student-athletes in a high-performance environment.
6. Certification in mental performance consultation ( CMPC) through AASP or completed educational requirements for CMPC and eligibility to sit for certification exam within one year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • 60% direct service (24 weekly hours) fully dedicated to individual student-athletes (i.e. therapy, consultation, care coordination)
  • Regular scheduled live practice, training, and competition observation for impromptu consultation, rapid assessment, brief interventions, and team talks.
  • Development and delivery of designated team's seasonal mental well-being and mental skill training plans.
  • Maintains working relationships with designated teams. Travel when appropriate, requested, and amendable to clinical.
  • Bi-weekly consultation with Associate AD for mental wellness and sport psychology and Director of UCC until licensed and institutional knowledge is deemed proficient
  • Attend weekly counseling center staff admin and clinical team meetings
  • Attends monthly eating concerns treatment team as athletics representative
  • Lead the sport psychology training specialization for APPIC matched doctoral interns. Work as a supervising consultant for intern's student-athlete case load and deliver didactics. Continue building off existing training track to cultivate meaningful and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Participates in bi-weekly sport psychology team which is available to all staff for consultation or education pertaining to working with high performers.
  • Takes part in rotating after hours emergency/crisis on call responsibilities as back-up to ProtoCall. Exactly 1 week per semester.
  • Administrative work, meetings, & problem-solving responsibilities such as policy development, vetting external providers for referral, serving on coach hiring committees, acting as a liaison/consultant with faculty/staff partners (i.e., athletic training, registrar office, student well-being committee, academic advisors, NCAA compliance office), and helping with recruiting when available
