SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for leading a team in the preparation and review of designs for complex catenary design engineering projects to repair, rehabilitate, or construct new railroad electrification facilities on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and Keystone Lines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  • Lead a team of engineers to manage catenary and transmission designs for various Amtrak and 3rd party projects by reviewing plans, specs, and calculations prepared by outside consultants, ensuring compliance with industry and Amtrak standards.





  • Develop and produce minor catenary-related designs for in-house construction.





  • Provide construction-related assistance and conduct field inspections when requested by Division Personnel or contractors to make engineering decisions.





  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Division personnel on project progress and coordinate project closeouts with the asset management and commissioning teams.





  • Interact professionally with and provide technical expertise to representatives from various Amtrak departments, railroads, and government organizations.





  • Work with the Sr. Manager to develop project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates in coordination with the Catenary SOGR Program





  • Manage the workload of and provide training and mentorship to junior-level engineers





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related fields





  • 7+ years of related experience





  • Demonstrated experience in design of catenary, transmission lines, structural steel, concrete, and foundations.





  • Demonstrated experience in project management.





  • Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization.





  • Demonstrated experience in managing large projects from planning phase through construction.





MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:




  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills





  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Project, STAAD, and AutoCAD.





  • Must be computer literate and capable of writing computer programs or spreadsheet programs to streamline design time efficiency





  • Must be well organized to manage the high volume of project documentation and the delegation of tasks and deadlines amongst the team





PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.





  • 9+ years of related experience





  • PE Certification





  • Extensive experience in design of Amtrak-specific OCS and Transmission systems and other Electric Traction facilities, including both Fixed Termination and Constant Tension Catenary Systems.





  • Extensive experience in Project Management, Planning/Scheduling, and Cost Estimating





WORK ENVRIORNMENT:




  • Based in Philadelphia, PA





  • Travel Requirements: Up to 25%





  • Office and field work environments

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $124,600-$161,352. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
