Position Summary |
This position is responsible for managing assigned School of Medicine facilities, including a multi-building zone containing over 300,000 assignable square feet within the school's 1.3 million square feet of assignable space in 25 campus buildings housing a mix of wet and dry lab research space, classrooms, office and common space. The position serves as the primary contact for maintenance, grounds, security and housekeeping issues, and assisting the Facility Planner and the School's Assistant Dean, Planning Office in providing a proactive plan for addressing maintenance issues in assigned buildings. This position will develop and maintain relationships with representatives of departments and research centers occupying the School of Medicine buildings. Responsibilities will include monitoring of critical research building-wide systems including house RO/DI water systems, laboratory equipment and instrumentation relocations, and working with
UNC Department of Environment Health and Safety (
EHS) to monitor and address indoor air quality and other environmental conditions. In addition, this position is the primary point of contact for leased property management. The
SOM maintains over 200,000 rentable square feet in multiple leased locations around the Triangle and this position will interface with
UNC Property Office,
UNC Health Care Real Estate Office and occupants of
SOM units in leased spaces around property management and occupancy coordination. This position will also serve as a point of contact between the
UNC Department of Public Safety, the
SOM Photo ID and Security Office and the School, as well as provide guidance to student groups, departments and Central Administrative Units when planning and setting up events within assigned spaces. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High level of customer service and can-do attitude. Position requires frequent movement to other buildings/locations, moving equipment/supplies, and other related physical coordination activities.
Must maintain valid NC driver's license. |

Experience with
UNC facilities management. |
