Job Purpose

The TSM Centralized Contracting Unit Lead will spearhead the central contract unit, driving business planning and strategic initiatives at the unit and department level. This role demands a leader who excels in team leadership, strategic management, innovation, and problem-solving to elevate our Centralized Contracting/Contract Management function to benchmark standards. The Unit Lead will actively engage with stakeholders to implement strategies that enhance process improvement and accelerate contracting speed across North America. Additionally, this leader will mentor and develop associates, fostering their growth through regular engagement and training. The Unit Lead will collaborate with team members to create a unified contracting team, achieving efficiency and establishing best practices. This role encompasses responsibilities for AHM, HDMA, and affiliated companies including HCM. The Unit Lead will act as the department lead in their absence.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and Manage Contracting Processes:

* Lead the team in ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance in contract requests, templates, and execution.

* Develop strategies to enhance the contracting process, improving operational efficiency and throughput through targeted, associate-led initiatives.

Resource and Workflow Management:

* Monitor and manage the team's workload and workflow, allocating resources to ensure timely, high-quality work.

* Adjust resources based on workload drivers, volume, and performance trends.

Team Development and Leadership:

* Actively develop team members' skills, knowledge, and capabilities through long-term career planning and development.

* Reinforce their sense of purpose by aligning their contributions with the unit's, department's, division's, and Honda's goals.

* Cultivate future leaders and support them throughout their journey.

Enhance Procurement Technologies:

* Lead initiatives to improve the use of procurement technologies (e.g., Ariba, SAP, Microsoft Product Suite, AI) for a transparent and seamless contracting process.

* Engage associates to implement improvements that ensure compliance with Honda's governance policies while maximizing efficiency.

Performance Management:

* Lead efforts to meet performance targets, consistently measuring and monitoring results.

* Implement countermeasures as needed and actively engage the team to identify new targets and metrics to enhance performance and exceed customer satisfaction.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, finance, or related field or equivalent in procurement experience


Minimum Experience:



  • 8 years' of procurement experience based on education and work history
  • Previous team leadership experience required


Other Job-Specific Skills:



  • Strong communication skills, using various channels (oral, written, presentations) to various internal and external audiences
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external groups and individuals, effectively
  • manage stakeholders, resolve issues, seek win-win solutions and/or achieving consensus
  • Advanced problem analysis, problem solving and decision-making capability
  • Solid computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Suite to include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.; familiarity with SAP, Ariba or major other erp system(s)
  • Ability to develop and evaluate business cases and complex projects
  • Familiarity with Corporate Governance, Corporate Risk and Fair/Ethical Business concept

No. of Direct Reports: 5-8

No. of Indirect Reports: 2-3

Financial Dimensions: Lead for Centralized Contracting ~$2.5M budget; All contracting related to Business User's budget.

Decisions Expected

  • Development and execution of business, procurement, and category strategies that are aligned with organization's objectives, seeking to maximize spend under management and total value for indirect goods and services
  • Set direction to meet unit SEQCDM performance targets and measures, monitors progress and implements countermeasures; Identify duplication of work, process inefficiencies and other areas of loss and develop / implement viable countermeasures through system, process, policy and associate improvement initiatives. Alignment of business plan themes and the work within Strategic Operations.
  • Support and mature the contracting performance and cost management organizational operating model across North America that optimally supports manufacturing sites, business units, and NAIP infrastructure.
  • Resource and succession planning for category to verify unit is staffed appropriately to meet stakeholder requirements and to confirm high potential associates are developed for future growth
