Job Summary |
The College of Agriculture at Auburn University is excited to recruit candidates for an
Aquaculture Technician! The Aquaculture Tech will be part of the operations and maintenance team at the Auburn University E.W. Shell Fisheries Research Center. The position will support the principal functions of the Center's management staff on a wide variety of projects related to fish production, aquaculture research, and fisheries management. This role will include grounds, facilities, and equipment maintenance as well as general fish husbandry tasks.

Essential Functions |
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- General fish husbandry including fish feeding, tank cleaning, behavioral observations, and aquaculture system maintenance.
- Maintain grounds and facilities using equipment such as tractors, mowers, excavators, and other machinery.
- Repairs, maintains, and operates various types of equipment.
- Assist with construction, repairs, and maintenance of facilities used by Center faculty, staff, and students including ponds, plumbing, RAS systems, and buildings.
- Assist with collecting, recording, and reporting of data, measurements, or other information for research projects.

Minimum Qualifications |
Education and Experience:
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent; no experience required.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience.
Level III: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
Level IV: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Certification or Licensure Requirements:
**A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment is required. |
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities |
- Ability to drive vehicles, and operate equipment such as tractors and mowers.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs minimum.
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods.

Minimum Technology Skills |
Basic ability to maintain and edit Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Basic ability to operate computer- based work order system. |
Minimum License and Certifications |

- Some college, vocational, Associates degree, or Bachelor's degree in fisheries/aquaculture or biological sciences.
