Overview

Job Purpose

The Engineer, Systems Engineering, Mainframe III position is an advanced professional level role responsible for the installation of z/OS Systems Software on IBM Mainframes. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and supports other engineering and operations teams. Additionally, the Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, identifies areas for process improvement, remediates issues, and executes tasks to deliver on project-based initiatives. The engineer may coach and/or mentor more junior technical staff. The position typically requires six (6) years of experience in systems administration and programming.

Responsibilities

    • Installs and supports IBM Z Series mainframe software.
    • Configures and supports z/OS.
    • Uses Hardware Management Console to configure and IPL mainframe LPARs.
    • Evaluates vendor-supplied software packages and makes recommendations to IT management.
    • Modifies and/or debugs vendor-supplied utilities and packages.
    • Modifies, installs and prepares technical documentation for system software applications.
    • Diagnoses, isolates and de-bugs software problems and performs problem resolution.
    • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Experience

    • Experience configuring and supporting IBM Mainframe Software (z/OS) required
    • Experience with mainframe technologies such as HLASM, COBOL, JCL, REXX, CLIST, TSO, ISPF, and SMPE highly desired
    • Skilled in Hardware Management Console to configure and IPL mainframe LPARs highly desired
    • Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to develop partnership-oriented relationships with business executives and functional leaders, especially as it relates to operations and technology
    • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment with focus on timeliness, documentation, and communications with peers and business users alike
    • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels within or outside the organization (executives, regulators, clients, etc.)
    • Results oriented, business focused, and successful at interfacing across multiple organizational units

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

Schedule

This role offers work from home flexibility of one day per week.
