Job Description

ORC is seeking a part-time, on-call, non-exempt Instructional Designerto support the creation and enhancement of training materials and course development. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely while contributing to impactful learning solutions for ORC employees and stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

As an Instructional Designer, you will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the Director of Organizational Development to identify training needs, create course design documents, and ensure alignment with learning objectives. The selected candidate will designand develop engaging learning pathways and course content using our Learning Experience Platform (HowNow), as well as interactive and compelling instructional materials, including audio, video, simulations, role plays, and other media. Candidate will utilizetools such as Articulate 360 for course design and Canva for visual content creation, and maintain accurate documentation for all projects, including course materials and project folders. You will use your expertise to apply current trends, learning theories, and best practices in instructional design to ensure content quality and effectiveness.

Here are the minimum Requirements:



  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in instructional design or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of learning theories, instructional design models, and adult learning principles.
  • Proficiency in Articulate 360, Canva, and other instructional design tools.
  • Experience with visual design tools (e.g., Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Excellent written communication skills for creating scripts, instructional text, and other course content.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, and Dropbox
  • Must have an iOS or Android smartphone to be able to access ORC's systems
  • Valid Driver's License



Bonus points if you have experience in the right-of-way industry or similar fields, familiarity with HowNow or similar Learning Experience Platforms and/or Projectmanagement experience.

Per diem and Relocation not provided

Physical Requirements: English language proficient. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clearly communicate and exchange information in person, via phone and email. Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers due to high computer usage and typing. Expected to spend long spans of time in front of a computer screen. Able to read, understand and interpret department related documents and data. The employee is required to move about inside the office to access files, office equipment and to interact with other members of the staff. This role requires the employee to occasionally travel to meet with members which involves time driving.
