Posting Type: Open Competitive Work Type: Full Time Nature of Work: This is journey level work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of traffic signal systems and their associated components in the shop and in the field. The incumbent receives work assignments orally or through written work orders and perform duties in cooperation with others in the same classification or under the direction of a Traffic Signal Technician II or other level of supervisor. The incumbent may oversee and participate in the work of subordinates. An employee in this classification exercises independent judgment in the performance of their duties based upon established practices and procedures.. Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. High school graduation or its equivalent AND Two years (2) of experience in electric, electronic, mechanical and computer hardware repair technical trade or traffic-maintenance-related work. Special Qualifications: Enrollment or completion of coursework in Electric, Electronic, Computer Hardware, or Communication Infrastructure and Repair preferred. Must possess a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's license with "N" and air brake endorsements by the end of the probationary period. Must obtain and maintain certification through the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) in Work Zone Safety and Traffic Signal Technician Level I prior to progressing to step C. Must acquire and maintain a 2nd Grade Hoisting and Portable Engineering Certificate by the end of the probationary period. Pay Range: $24.08 with step increases to $34.27 Hourly Benefits: Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year: twelve days vacation; eighteen days sick; and fourteen holidays. Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be on January 10, 2025 at TBD at the Omaha/Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, 7th floor, room 702. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 60%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score. Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, and practices used in electrical equipment repair work Essential Functions: Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this class. * Installs, upgrades, maintains, and performs scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency repairs on traffic signal systems, traffic signal communications equipment, and associated components Conditions of Employment: Candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or proof of permanent residence or authorization to work.
