Environmental Compliance Technician (One Year Only - Readvertisement)

Description

Performs the skilled journey-level work required to identify, qualify, and repair environmental hazards such as asbestos and radon in all Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) buildings.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • One (1) year of experience in the hazard abatement field.
    • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
  • Must earn a valid Commonwealth of Virginia asbestos supervisor license and an asbestos inspector's license within six months of appointment to the position.
  • Must remain in compliance with requirements through annual recertification.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local codes and regulations pertaining to condition, presence, removal, encapsulation, and testing of asbestos materials and airborne asbestos.
  • Knowledge of personal health and safety precautions, equipment, and methods and procedures necessary for testing, removing, and encapsulating asbestos.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of tools and equipment necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Ability to follow and prepare diagrams and blueprints.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports and records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communicate with the public.

$52,767 - $89,072
