Job Summary

The Administrative Director of the Peninsula Outpatient Center (POPC) is responsible for the standardized execution of ambulatory network growth and operational goals. Oversees the clinical and operational functions and staff. Recommends allocation of staff, space, equipment, and other resources to optimize the delivery of clinical services. Engages POPC physicians, staff members, ambulatory leaders and partners. Leads the daily operations of the POPC to maximize the value of the relationship for the UCSF Health Care Network. Implements value based strategies and tactics. Implements efficient processes and elevates patient access to services in alignment with outpatient regulatory and quality standards.

The Director is responsible for establishing operational goals and work plans while managing large, inter-disciplinary teams. Develops plans to optimize practices and resources, people, space, time, and equipment. The Director has first line responsibility to communicate effectively with stakeholders - both internally and externally - regarding outpatient operations, budget, schedule, expenses and impact.

The Director also establishes, in alignment with overall UCSF Health strategy, long-term goals and strategic goals and identifies, analyzes, and monitor issues that impact growth. Directs the operations and program planning for healthcare clinics and / or centers. Develops and implements patient service standards and metrics, based on best practices. Develops processes and analytics to assure viability of existing programs and practice patterns, and optimizes productivity. The Director acts as a champion for UCSF Health's mission, vision, and values and partners across the organization to drive a high-performance work environment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $167,000 - $256,000 (Annual Rate).

UCSF Health is a growing and expanding enterprise presently comprised of UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals (Oakland and San Francisco), Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics, UCSF Faculty Practice, Benioff Children's Physicians and other outpatient entities. In addition, UCSF Health has formal affiliations and partnerships with a number of Northern California hospitals and health systems.

UCSF Health brings clinical service capabilities into a unified management structure and single operating unit, achieving strategic, operational and financial alignment between the School of Medicine, Medical Group and the Medical Center as well as provider affiliates. Its structure streamlines decision making, strengthens the ability to act with one voice, and ensures accountability at every point to execute collectively agreed upon commitment to excellence and efficiency

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training
  • 5-10 years related experience, with 5 in a leadership, supervisory, or management level role
  • Strong clinic / center management experience, with progressive expertise in practice management, scheduling, customer-service methods, incident reporting, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, information technology, and the policies, principles, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration
  • Excellent and advanced managerial skills and human resources management knowledge, including staff deployment, resource utilization, budgeting and financial management, quality improvement, and program planning and implementation
  • Excellent and advanced communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff, management, and outside agencies, with the ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in business administration and/or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
  • Excellent skills in successfully managing clinic / center administration functions. Skills to develop strategic plans, create benchmarks, integrate systems and fiscal management
