Job Description

NNL is seeking a cybersecurity professional to join the Cybersecurity Program Management team in the Information Technology (IT) Department. The newest member of the team will have an important role in securing the world's best Navy by performing cybersecurity risk analysis of changes to current information systems, guiding the development of new system security plans, performing security control validation, and supporting development and maintenance of cybersecurity program policies and processes.

Some roles and responsibilities include:



  • Promote and encourage a collaborative culture toward continuously improving cybersecurity posture.
  • Regularly analyze planned system changes for cybersecurity risks, document conclusions reached and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Routinely guide system owners to develop security authorization packages that align with NIST guidelines and corporate standards.
  • Develop and execute assessment plans to determine the effectiveness of information system security control implementations.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend cybersecurity improvements to information systems and work practices by the development of assessment reports, change requests, briefings, and presentations.
  • Assist in the development of cybersecurity policy and processes based on United States Government directives and NIST guidance.
  • Be accountable to own and complete work tasks in a timely manner; seek help when necessary.
  • Be responsible and receptive to routine self-development using training materials provided by the company.
  • Plan daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job expectations and management instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
  • Maintain immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers; report unsafe conditions and/or practices to ensure they are corrected in a timely manner.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including experience explaining cybersecurity concepts and requirements to other stakeholders and understanding user needs.
  • Solid understanding and experience supporting IT and/or OT systems.
  • Familiarity with Cloud SaaS, PaaS and laaS solutions.
  • Familiarity with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF) approach, methods, and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze system changes for cybersecurity risks using NIST risk analysis concepts.
  • Experience developing and maintaining an information system security plan based on NIST guidance.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Risk and Authorization Management (FedRAMP) process.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, execute and document security control assessments/validations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn continuously and develop working knowledge in new areas as needed.

Pay Range
$76,400.00 - $117,000.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
