Summary The payroll clerk is responsible for general payroll assistance which may cross into departments such as Accounts Payable or G/L accounting. Duties Champions "The Layton Way" by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers. Ensures that "Constructing with Integrity" is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work. Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data. Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, job title, and department transfers. Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests. Reconciliation of payroll accounts Completes employment verifications. Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as assigned. Qualifications 1-2 years education in office administration, bookkeeping, or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience. Types at least 40 wpm. Has some 10-key experience. Has basic working knowledge of Word and Excel. Has high school diploma or equivalent. Strong organizational skills including effective time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks while determining priorities Demonstrates strong ability to work well on a team and within a fast-paced environment and meets deadlines under pressure. Interpersonal Relations: Maintains effective relationships with others. Uses tact. Is sensitive to feelings and needs of others. Has the ability to operate office equipment, such as a computer, printer, copier, phone, 10-key, and fax. Competent written and verbal communication/language skills to interact effectively with others Integrity: Maintains the normal standards of ethics, conduct and organizational policies in job-related activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
