Seagate Recording Head Operation is searching for an outstanding Wafer Yield Engineer to work at the Bloomington, MN facility.

About the role - you will:

In this leadership position, you will have a terrific opportunity to gain exposure to all engineering disciplines, as well as Physics and Chemistry, utilized in our Wafer Manufacturing Facility. Yow will be a key team member for maintaining line yield and probe yield. You be responsible for assuring high quality Wafer ships. You will continually enhance your problem solving and data analysis skill sets as you work to resolve daily product and factory quality/yield issues. The specific focus of this position will be Yield/Quality management of the writer. With the rapid pace of our technology development, you will rarely face the same problem twice!

The Wafer Yield Engineer will:




  • Perform daily troubleshooting and evaluation of suspect wafers and processes.
  • Work with process technicians, engineers, maintenance, and operations employees to resolve factory and product issues; often requires spending time in a Class 100 cleanroom.
  • Ensure proper passdown and documentation is made and report to management of factory status including problems and potential problems.
  • Conduct SPC monitoring of tools, investigate scrap root causes, and address factory inhibitors.
  • Provide technician and sustaining engineering training.
  • Mentor Sustaining Engineers
  • Drive root cause analysis for deviant material.
  • Participate and direct in 8Ds and 4ups
  • Work with product engineering and product management to manage wafer process deviations that may impact downstream performance
  • Assist Research & Development teams with the advancement of technology.
  • Initiate and coordinate projects to improve yield and quality of the manufactured wafers
  • Lead investigations
  • Delegate Actions
  • Provide quality and yield feedback to all cycles of the wafer development life cycle.
  • Daily scrap investigation and quality determination
  • In-room writer geometry targeting to deliver high quality writer performance downstream.
  • Interest developing skills in Machine Learning, Generative AI, and Data Science
  • Support and Develop Automation with Training using Microsoft Power Automate, Python, and OCAPS.
  • Facilitate key meetings that includes the CTQ meeting, Yield Meeting and Writer WiP throughput meeting
  • Work with product engineer and PPA team to manage wafer process deviations that may impact downstream performance
  • Help define and manage process improvement trials
  • Lead effort to maintain or understand offsets in cross site matching
  • Develop specialization aligned with career interest
  • Significant engineering responsibility
  • Work on cutting edge technology
  • Work on projects aligned with their expertise
  • Prepare executive quality summaries in PowerPoint and SharePoint Newsletters
  • Position may require limited/occasional travel.
  • Work on-site at the Bloomington, MN facility

About you:

Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with 5-8 years of experience.

Your experience includes:

  • Sound decision making and problems solving skills.
  • Computer Skills: PowerPoint, Executive PowerPoint, Teams, JMP, SQL
  • Analytical Skills



The estimated base salary range for this position is $81,536.00 - $116,604.80. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
